Chris's new expert - pics don't do the colour/finish justice. Might have to get it out in the sunlight later!!
Just needs some brake adapters to run the 1 3/8" rims now to finish it off - if anyone has a set for sale (or some calipers with long pad adjustment) let me know.

Very nice indeed.

Hoping Nick will still be riding when expert size is needed as that is Mint.  :daumenhoch:

Gav, if you don't get any joy sourcing those brake mount adaptors in the UK, then it looks like you can buy them direct from Avent/Bomshell on their website:

Very nice that. I didn't know Dialled were doing the smaller sizes, looks quality.
Have you had a look at the LDC or Pauls Components brakes?- they have quite a long reach and work very well.

Only just started doing the Expert (19" TT) and Expert XL (19.75" TT) this year after Tre Whyte and Brad Spick rode the prototype for the last 2 seasons.

Would like to do all the smaller sizes eventually, but doesn't really work out that well economically when parents can buy a perfectly capable complete bike for under £400 and my frames cost £299.  So for the time being, I think Expert is the smallest size I will do.  Really happy with the way they've turned out though.

Shows how BMX has changed into an "adult sport" when a 19" TT is Expert these days and back in our day Pros were riding 18.5" top tubes  :idiot2:

Gav,

Go on the bay and search for an odyssey A brake.

There were loads of em going cheap not long back and they have masses of brake adjustment. I have used them in the past for the conversion.

Just remember to grease the bolts and use a decent allen key when installing. I may even have a spae one in the shed.

Gav, if Sutty's got an A-brake you can try, I would do that before spending money on one as when we tried it on Brad Spick's prototype with 1&3/8ths it still didn't have enough reach.  That's what motivated me to use removable v-brake posts on the production versions so people could use whatever wheels they like plus those little Avent VPS gadgets.  The brake mounts are positioned for use with 1.5"/1.75" rims.

Funny you should mention the A brake - spoke about it tonight at the track & Ged has one in his box that he's bringing on Saturday to try - I had one & looking at the side profile pics there may be a little more material that could be machined out if needed, at £4.99 a pop it wont matter if it goes wrong!!! Failing that it's the states direct.
Cheers for the advice........

You could be missing a trick there Mike. If you look at all the younger classes at the Nationals, there's very few riders on stock bikes, in fact I'd say the majority are on custom builds, and most people (us included) are changing frames every year to get the size just right. I know one kid who rode 4 different frames last year! You're also far more likely to find a 30+ year old dad with the money to spend on this sort of kit  than a teenager or somebody in their 20's. Seeing as most U.S frames are coming in at £400+ in this category I'd say yours looks like good value.
I know what you mean about top-tube length though- I'm building Finn's new bike up for next season, he's 8, and the TT length is the same as my old 'pro' size bike from the eighties!

Thanks for that info Proclass.  Very insightful.  I just assumed most people who bought minis and juniors bought complete bikes (like me).  Don't really intend to buy my lad a custom build until he's big enough to ride one of my Experts.

I only got 10 of each Expert and Expert XL made, so maybe it won't take too long to shift them after all.

Mike

Nicholas has moved off of his mini and is now on a junior Intense Podium custom built to fit him  :smitten: ..... the frame cost a lot more than yours do, but when he saw the one in the piccys he wanted one there and then..... till i told him it was an Expert size.  :yahoo_silent:

I do believe that if you get smaller sizes made up people will buy them.

Tried the A brake idea - not quite enough adjustment but managed to get hold of the VPS adaptors from the States & they were shipped yesterday so should be up & running next week hopefully!

Gav.

How did you go about fitting the VPS adaptors as the ones i have for Chloe's bike do not seem to thread in far enough and there is a little rocking motion in the adaptor.

Plain and simple, but functional (like me  :crazy2:)

I think good geometry and durability is more important that ultra lightweight and looking different for the sake of looking different.

Me again

It would seem the thread on the brake posts and Dialled frame are different to the norm.( I have the VPS brake adapters and it does state that some bikes may be different.)

What are the general thread sizes and how do i go about getting new posts.

Thanks in advance

Matt

I have had contact from Avent/Bombshell and they say there are only two types of thread ...they supply their kit with the most common type but can supply the other posts and bolts if required.
