I would say chainstay if the brake's low profile enough to miss the chain.

22/8 clears if the frame is designed properly, isn't that micro enough? If it works better mechanically AND the smallest gear ratio does actually fit are your opposing opinions not a bit unfounded? What knowledge are you actually basing your opinions on?

chainstays look neater to me if you run a giro and with lowered chainstays and low brakes like fly you can still run micro gearing, but all the bikes I have owned lately all have had seatstay mounts

seatstays for me, aloways liked the simplicity of working on brake tension, block alignment, cable etc etc without the chain being in the way and mashing your hand on chainring teeth.
But really, it make sense for a brake to be sown on the chainstays - ask S&M Alex or Geoff Cain for very lengthy engineering answers why!

Exactly, and to use micro gear clearance as some sort of justification for brakes not being in their optimal position is just wrong.

i've had both, but must say they work and look better on the chainstays.

Chainstay - any day!

I think that SS mounts make the brake feel different & not really to my liking but these days it's difficult to even find a new frame with CS lugs & is one reason I went for a Camp limo Campillo.

& 28-10 is small enough for any man!?

torn on this one. admitedly you can get em dialled on both but they seem to bite better on the chainstay. could be cos they are lower point for holding the weight of bike and rider and less forces against it.
easier to work on on the seatstays. hmmm....   :-\

maybe someone should mount em under the chainstays/bottom bracket like the gt's did.....  :-X
