BRAKES & THE LAW?
« on: February 27, 2009, 12:01 PM »
:) My 10 year old is doing a "Bicycle Safety Course" at school. The instructors have told him he can`t take part unless he has a front brake fitted. Is this a legal requirement?

i think it is 'technically' the same as shops have to sell bikes with chain guards attached as well as reflectors.

could be wrong though?  :-\

it is unfortunately  :( its pretty stupid, just stick a front brake on then once he pass take it off again, i did the course on my bmx when i was in year 7. These bicycle safety courses are mainly for using the road you know what i mean, pull up left up to go left blah so both brakes are needed on road.

yep its the law for the BS standards all bikes must have 2 working brakes, bell, chain guard and reflectors unless the bike is not intented to be used on the road, some companies get round this by selling the bikes as incomplete ie does not come with pedals etc
