What gearing is everyone running on their cruisers

As the title says what are you gearing are you running on your cruisers?  I am sure someone said on here that 39 / 18 was the same as 44 / 16 on a 20".  I want to order my new cranks from the rad shop but I want to get the right size chain ring first time.

Ok Lee , 41 -18 is the norm for cruisers works out the same as 41-15 on a 20" , other ratios that work are 39-17 , 36-16
41-18 is quite spinny , depends on weather you like to spin or grunt !!!!

No-one's mentioned tyre sizes yet as they will affect the rollout.  Matt & James are running Kenda Small Block 8's which are 1.95's so we've had to make allowance for the bigger diameter.  They are 23.9" diameter.  Try playing with tyre sizes using this rollout calculator http://www.badasstoys.com/chandler/chandler_gear_calculator.htm Start with what you know and are comfortable with on a 20", eg. 44/16 on 1.75s then maybe try matching it with the 24"s.  Can play for hours and even then someone will tell you differently.  Pick a ratio that someones suggested here, try it and work from there.  Humps

41-18 with 180mm cranks.

Tried 42-18 at Preston but lost my first straight and my legs were pumped at the end of the lap.

Thinking of sticking with 41-18 for this season but dropping down to 175mm cranks for more spin.

I'm using whatever came on my Redline Flight but I haven't a clue what it is.

After reading all this I need to check and start spending some time thinking about it.

It came with a load of back sprockets so I could change those about.

Gearing on 20" seems to be less like black magic than it was BITD but cruiser seems to be much more of a discussion point.

It`s got a 16 t cog on the cassette hub Gary, but you can change that easy enough  :daumenhoch:

I`m using 39-16 on 180mm cranks at the moment, which although is quite high gearing I like it, and won at Daggers on it so it must be ok, although having read what Humps has said about tyre size I might change it to 38-16 as I`m running 1.85 Holly Rollers which is a step up from the 1.75 Comp iv`s I was using  ???

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

41-18 and 175mm dxr's works best for me..
Never been able to understand why people rate 180's so much, 175's feel quicker to torque round to me..   :daumenhoch:

Mine came with 41-18 but with OldSchool firmly planted in my brain I thought it would be a good idea to try 44-18.................
Dont, really bad idea, run it at daggers and couldnt get out of the gate but once I got going it was great, gone back down to 42-18, still a little spinney so ive got a 43 for when the tracks are really firm, Lee are you riding cruisers in the EA or the South mate?

30/13 on 177's. It's a spinner, but a cruiser has a better rolling speed than a 20", so I don't think you need to pedal as much on one.

It's not the gearing that ever bothers me, I never ever change mine, it's those big bloody 30 foot long jumps and technical rhythem sections every track has these days that buggers me up. :)
