GT finally back from dead
« on: February 12, 2006, 08:16 PM »

Terrible pic but it has been pxxxing down and dark all day, and my house is like a cave.  I spent the afternoon getting my 1984 GT Standard back in order.

This was my original race bike (other than something made of iron). I've been meaning to sort it out again for years. Now got:
401s on sealed BB with Suntour chainring
Hutch pedals
Araya 7X on Suzue hubs with Comp IIIs
GT Pro bars
A'ME rounds
Suntour steam
MX1000 and Tech 3
The original pads
Kashimax MX

hey man - are you sure that is an 84?
What is the serial number?
If it's an 84 it would have to be very early 84 as the 84 GTs had the slanted top tube end (like my 84 here):

daz bmx it!

I bought it in March '84 so I suppose I may be very late '83. The original headtube sticker was a wrap-around job with orange and yellow stripes top and bottom. A bit odd. Serial number 11831784 (so I suppose that makes it a Nov '83 then?).

yep - November 83 is the date of mfg for your GT.
Last of the Santa Ana-made ones and is fully up for a NORA Cup decal (it would have been sold with one on it).

Ah the bloody Nora Cup sticker. Been looking everywhere for one of those. Yes it came with one - got it from a shop in Doncaster. Can't find that sticker anywhere though. I will have to get my tracing paper out.

Tell you what andy, i have got a gt from 84, and it's a pro(with the extra 4 on the dropout) and it's straight cut not the bologne cut. I thought it can't be in the begining but the serial can not lie.
