GETTING OFF MUSHROOM GRIPS
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:02 AM »
Hi. Need some advice on getting these off my bars. They are jammed on their bigtime! I'm talking about the two tone coloured signature grips (blue/white). Be gutted if they get damaged but want to sell these bars but can't until they are off? Any ideas? I'm thinking heating them up with a hairdryer and going with the old chopstick and wd40 again etc...

Matt  :)

You won't get the red straw down, those two tone grips are hard plastic.

An old spoke poked in, then spray the WD40. :daumenhoch:

WD40 Matt , Just ease the grip out a bit then pump it full of the stuff then start twisting the grip back and forth and the WD works its way down the inside.I did it with my mushroom 2's  :daumenhoch:

Always use an old spoke, poke it down to make some room, spray wd-40 in & start moving the grip around.  Repeat.

Ta lads. They are very hard plastic indeed, so i'll find something suitable to wack in there and spray up with WD to ease them off :)

be careful on these if ya use boiling hot water as it softens the grip part up too much and they can split :-\  best thing to do is once soaked roll the grip part off then work away on the white part

Getting off mushrooms is not easy, I went to support groups for months but then I became resistent to them, so I took PCP to help get me off going to support groups-Bad move really. I have wandered round the O/S bmx scene since then, its nice and reasonably cheap by comparison.

i took some mushrooms off some c dubs today and i did what i always do, yok on the hole and pull the gripm hard to let the yok go down a bit then using my brute strength start twisting until it lets go and pops off, been doing this on bmx's and motorcrossers since bitd, never fails.
