Sir Eddie Fiola, DMC, Brian Blyther, Kevin Jones, Mike Dominguez, RL Osborne, Martin Aparijo, Mat Hoffman, Neil Ruffell, Jay Miron, Woody Itson= BMX freestyle. Period. Eddie= Trix R 4 Kids, backward-to-front brakes, the kink in the downtube of the Performer/Pro F/S Tour/Dyno, Wheel discs, "I never leave home without it", the great colors, the reason I wanted a Performer/Pro F/s Tour, the reason I love old/mid school(I still ride a 97 Dyno Slammer)....ect.
Who do you rate? "on ramps: Eddie(Eddie, Eddie, Eddie...) Fiola, Mike Dominguez and Brian Blyther. On ground: myself, R.L. Osborne and Woody Itson." What about Ron Wilkerson? "Ron wins, but he's not in the top 3 for me." --Martin Aparijo.
Eddie, I enjoy your flatland runs on Youtube. Betwwen you, Martin, Kevin Jones and Dennis McCoy, I have a tough time choosing my favorite. Yes Kevin did so many difficult tricks, but you make them look fun!
As for GT, I think they used the money that you, Martin, Dave Voelker and John Parker made for them to buy Aurburn, Robinson, Powerlite and Schwinn. They went bang after that. And since new school bikes look like racing bikes, I think maybe you should go back to them and design a new bike that we all could ride and actually love the way it looks and rides.
RAD--the movie-- is still good after all of these years.
You rule.

Thanks for all the inspiration.
AJ

When I were a nipper (well, about 15), me and some mates form the rural village of Tedburn in Darkest Devon, caught a bus to Exeter, train to Bristol, another train to Bath (I think), then walk to some sports centre, to see the GT World Tour.

Got there all stoked, saw Andy Preston's Pro Landrover (not quite the Porsches the U.S. crowd had!), and crammed into the sports arena, nearly pissing ourselves to see some BIG AIR!

Where's the frickin' quarter pipe???!!! Word was, it wouldn't go through the door into the sports hall (80's organisation!). So we had a flat and kickturn ramp show, gutted.

That was,

Until Fiola's last run, pedals across the arena full blat, HUGE 360 off the kickturn to flat, pretty much landing in the doorway leading out, f-uckin sick!! That one wiped out all the disappointment from the non appearance of the quarter pipe, and paying the GT importer guy (geoff summat?) a 1980's tenner for a super light weight world tour tee, that were being sold from the boot of his car in the car park underneath! (like the quarter non-appearance, p-r-o !!)

Happy days. The only other time I saw you ride Eddie was at the Slough Kellogs (nuther arduos train journey from the countryside!), and even I as a naive impressionable 15 y.o. knew getting the very best riders in the world to back hop through cones was ab-so-lutely f-uckin WACK!!! The best skatepark riders in the world, the Pipeline locals, doing back hops!! You could see the disgust on Mike D's face, he just barely bothered to do the hops.
And then goes over the bars doing a kickturn! He can't have been too happy that day. Least I got to see Haro do a loooong nose wheelie, til his MX1000 exploded, quality.

I had the pleasure of hanging out and riding with Eddie yesterday at Alvin Mullin's house.
It was Tony Murray's bachelor party jam to break in Alvin's new ramp.

Alvin, Me and Eddie.

wow. cool. Lee. looks  like a good laugh.
Every house I look at to buy, i first go and check out the garden , hoping to have enough room for a half pipe.  Must be great having your own. Alvin's a lucky bugger. Specially if Lee and Ediie come round for a session,

i couldn't view the other photos. I'll try again later.
cheers

First saw Eddie Fiola ride in Cumbria in 84 with Bob Morales on that awesome yellow peformer, he bunny hopped a security railing when he first arrived on his way to get changed into his riding gear.Bar press with his helmet nearly touching the front tire and Fiola bike walk we're unreal.Pleased to hear he's well and still enjoying his riding.

Some great pics and memories. I remember Seeing Mr Fiola @ Cleethorpes Leisure Centre. Whem Geoff Baraclough who ran Wheel Ways and Team GTGB brought Eddie over. I saw him ride the quarter pipes on a GT Pit bike with Red Tuffs on it. Nearly 30 years later i would never thought I would own that bike but I do! Can`t prove it but I have nothing to gain by lying just wish there were some pictures!
