Just sat down and worked up what it would cost to start from scratch to race a whole season in the south.

Bike - £1800+
Kit - £400
Licence - £32
Race Fees - £130
Travel Expenses - £340
Food and drink - £100

Total for 1 seasons regional racing in the south is £2802.

Obviously you can massively reduce some of these costs but even so it's still going to be an expensive season.

Still more than worth every penny if you ask me.

You can get a complete Redline Flite 20" or cruiser for under £600, what is your bike gold plated

That must be one bling bike for £1800.

Hotels and fuel are my biggest cost. Probably spend about £700 per season on hotels and about £50 per regional/£100 per national on fuel costs. So this season will probably cost me around £1700 for hotels/travel.

The bike price is if you had to buy all the parts of my bike at the current retail price.

A normal complete bike is always going to be a lot cheaper, but it's never going to be exactly to your liking is it.

For example the cranks are £330 and the hubs are just shy of £300 as well. At prices like that it soon adds up. Thank god I didn't have to buy a front brake.

My cruiser cost around £500 to put together, and it`s still faster than yours

Thing is Bike and kit etc should last 2/3 seasons so you could half that cost against a years racing. But still looks expensive when tallied up like this, but at the end of the day it's still a cheap hobby compared to any form of racing, bike or motorized, plus it's worth spending that much just to take the piss out of Zippy when hes been beaten

Still probably works out cheaper than 20 tabs a day and 10 pints every weekend.

Racing bmx for me is peanuts compared to racing powerbikes and I am still so glad that bmx racing has come back in my life bmx racing is as expensive as you want it to be

Doing a downhill mtb national costs at least £300 & often much more!

Ironic think is when you go abroad to race DH to the Alps or Pyrenees etc is doesnt cost any more but is 100 times better!!!

fook me theres SIX in my family that race , five regulary and one occassionally , we run two cars to get all the bikes kit and kids to the races so zippy moaning about how much it costs him is a bit of a piss take !!!!lol Worth every penny and drop of blood too !!!!

I was merely pointing out the costs as I worked them out.

At the end of my post I quite clearly state that I think it's worth every penny.

The bike will make no difference to how I ride it but I'm a flash git that likes a blingy bike.

zippy i agree with you my next bike (2010) is going to be total bling the dogs nuts its not the cost its the feeling of having what you want , i do match fishing 2500 quid for a pole makes BMX cheap even on a BLING bike mind u ive always been the same always want to best stuff hence why im broke all the time ................... or is that ex wife and 3 kids that keep me poor lol
