Rims
« on: February 10, 2009, 01:25 PM »
I've decided it's time to take the plunge and start building a new bike!

Going to go for a Proper TTL with Unknown bars, keeping a few parts I already have such as my Fly stem and Illegal cranks as these are practically brand new anyway.

What I need help with is rims!

I want Proper Magnalite hubs with a ceramic rear driver, but I'm not sure about rims.  Was thinking of maybe Fly?

Anyone got any opinion?

(I mostly ride vert)

If you want proper hubs ,why not go for a proper wheelset, good value light wheelset in any colour you want. :daumenhoch:

I was going to.........but everyone I know (in other words everyone who would give me a decent discount!) has proper rims in stock. Apparently they're selling faster than they can get them made!

That's why I was thinking of going for something else like Fly or Odyssey.

Everyone I speak to is saying different things!!   ;D

Spoke to someone last night who told me that Demolition Zero rims are getting a lot of positive feedback recently.

He also said that Proper hubs don't last very long (at least, not the rear cassette hubs) and that he would recommend Profiles.

Any opinions on Demolition rims and Proper/Profile hubs?

Proper had much trouble with their first rear cassette hubs as the driver bearings were prone to failure but their latest magnalite 4 hub (which i'm running) i have not heard of any problems.
So if you do go for Proper hubs make sure you get mag4 and not mag3.
Profile hubs are amazing but costly, if money isn't an issue i would go profile.
Rims are pretty much alike and difficult to say which is best as there's loadsa nice rims available.

I've got proper rims here...

Anyhoooo....do you want strong? light? Colour?

The Ody rims are great, Shadow rims are great, Demolition are great, Proper are great (but not as strong as the others, but that is relative!).

Give me a shout and I can do ya a deal me old poppet.

How about a pair of Shadow Rota Rims in Chrome for £65 Posted? Cheap enough for ya?!

If you fancy Ody, Proper or Fly give me a shout with colour etc and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers man

Dave
