Yeah is cool and been going on in the states for some time even freestyle, bmx was frowned upon when i was at school my head hauled my parents in once and advised them to take my bike off me and made an issue of the bruises on my legs and the caluses on my hands, fairplay to my folks they told him it wouldn't work, funny how attitudes change over time eh.

Thats great, it is funny though when I was in my last year at school we had a cycling option which was either road or BMX at Eastway. We spent the whole of Friday afternoon there. When I dislocated my knee the staff let me take the bmx class

Personally I'm not sure about the lack of body armour.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for this...but all it takes is one bad accident and a finger of blame to kill it at birth.

I hope this spreads like wildfire personally

When I was at school I had a great P.E. teacher called Mr Lumb. During some P.E. classes when we weren't playing football or rugby I showed little interest in cricket and a few other things so Mr Lumb suggested that I bring mt bike in and ride for a couple of hours instead. I didn't need telling twice!! Two hours of unsupervised riding on C Block's playground which at one end had a cool jump for 360ing!!

Our local BMX track was only a few miles from school so our PE teacher let a small group of us go up there and train instead of doing mainstream sports we didn't enjoy.  That was in about 1985.  He came up there for the first couple of weeks to make sure we weren't skiving off but when he saw how into it we were he never even bothered coming up again.

Looks like a great strategy though, hope it catches on.

we always had bmx'ing at PE time, when it was time to cross the road to the sports hall, we would fook off and ride bikes till it was time for next lesson, they never did a registration in PE....

Great to see and those kids really couldn't have a better teacher than Kelvin.

If more schools do this in future, the gap between UK racers and the rest of Europe and America might get closed.
