there we are. now, this is NOT the same bike that i had seen cracked a few weeks ago, altho its the same make/model.

this belongs to a dude who cracked it 3 days ago and was still riding it, although it was actually his second one after his first frame failed in the same spot. the frame has lasted 2 months according to this rider.

so- now i've seen two of these bikes cracked and i can get pics of the other when my friend gets back from his hols on tuesday.

So if Gogo has seen 2 cracked ones, and one of those was a replacment, then there are still 997 left that are fine.

well, to be fair one did say that "shit happens"... they calmed down eventually and with councelling I am confident they will be ok.

Do Shimano pretend that shit does not happen though? Another one in the Channel Islands cracked today too!

All frames are capable of cracking if ridden beyond their limit, but not all frames crack.

You're right about other companies following suit on the lightweight thing though.  When S&M, Standard and FBM all got their cro-moly race frames down to the 4.2/4.5lb marks, I had to get my race frames down to a similar weight as well, which meant using much stronger air hardened cro-moly (Reynolds 853) tubes which meant I could go down in wall thickness, outside diameters and lose gussets, etc.

I think when using a top quality tube like 83, Supertherm or OX, then >4/<5lb is a respectable and durable weight for a frame.  When using regular 4130, then 5/<5.5.lb is a sensible weight.

Don't really care what special heat treating processes are used or the type of tubing.  When frames start coming in at 3.5/4lb, common sense should tell people that they will not be as durable as a frame with an extra pound or two of metal in em.

wonderfull. FYI, i have looked on quite a few other bmx forums, there seems to be a very very small number of blokes, 3-5 maybe a couple more, who seem to be on a hate campaign against these frames being right. Many of the comments on hearing about one or two cracked frames is 'see, told you it's not safe' and 'told you that shit wouldn't work' etc.. Nobody gives a toss about cracked ltf's, but they have the same stupid comments, '4.2lbs i wouldn't trust it' and 'if i was a teenager maybe' etc, seems all the older, more uptight riders are out for blood at any chance they get with any subject.

Mike, just because your not building these frames that doesn't make them wrong. You may be in danger of getting left behind in the coming years if you leave yourself closed to new or alternative methods. Steel and alloy technology moves forward all the time. He's taken the bull by the horns and gone for it with a product he believes in and one or two or even ten out of a thousand on an innovative brand new product seems good numbers from a business perspective. What you say is true about common sense though, if you seem to land most tricks two foot away from your bike, are 14 stone plus or even as rough as hell all the time, then why would you even consider a revoloution/evoloution or ltf.

It`s the Scottish mafia that seem to have a problem with these frames, could that be because the frames carry a Union Jack on them ?

If you don`t think a frame is going to be strong enough for you then don`t buy one, but don`t then start slagging them off, just get on with riding your own bike  :daumenhoch:

If my post came across as "because I'm not making these frames they're wrong" then that wasn't the intention.  Fair play to UK Bike Co for securing the rights to this new "technology" and going with it.  From my perspective, I think it's still very early days to say one way or the other whether this "technology" actually works or not.  If none of the frames had broken I would think "it's working", but as a number of frames have shown to have cracked within a few months' of purchase the jury is still out for me.  I'm trying to speak objectively here as a fellow bike designer/company owner, not as a hater/rival to Dibly.  When all the handbags are put away, this issue of frame weights and longevity is actually a very interesting subject.

Trying to decrease weight has been tried before but didn't succeed.

Its alway going to be a contentious subject!!  ???
