My first build - nearly there..
« on: February 02, 2006, 11:13 AM »
Hi all

I've been lurking on here for a while, occasionally popping my head up to ask a few (probably quite basic) questions.

I finally got enough stuff together to begin my first build in umpteen years! I've tried to do it on a budget and keep costs to a minimum for my first build as we're buying a house at the moment too. This one's also going to be a rider, the next one will be a show bike.

Spec so far;

Aero Reflex F&F (NOS)
Aero Zytec mags (used)
Tioga headset (NOS)
Dyno pretzel bars (NOS)
Dyno stem (NOS)
Unbranded layback seat post (NOS)
White GT seat (NOS)
Haro Freestyle tyres (NOS)
Suntour 16t freewheel (NOS)
Unbranded 1 pc crank (used)
DNA 44t chainring (was given)
Odyssey BB (NOS)
Wellgo alloy pedals (very used)

Here's a couple of pics from the build up so far..

NOS frame and bits

BB & Cranks on

Headset, forks and bars on

Shim, post and seat going on

Front wheel

Rear wheel

Resembling a BMX

Just need to fit the chain now.

Also looking for the following to complete;

White calipers with underpull front for potts mod stem
White Tech 5 levers
White brake cables
White & Blue or White & Black A'me dual compound mini grips

I think I'll change the chainring when I find a white one I like too..

All comments welcome...

Cheers guys!

I've just scanned all the decals in and I'm in the process of changing the colours to blues instead of red/orange.

Can't wait to get it all set up and go out for a scoot around

I always think bikes look better in the kitchen than the lounge.

Nice build, see you at the next bones on that!!

Thanks for the positive comments, glad to see I've done OK for a first build!

I really like the Zytecs in blue, plus they're in-keeping with the frame (Aero). I've never seen another blue set before.

Has anyone got Zytecs in any other colour than the more common white and red?

I'd love to come to the next Bones jam, I've done a lot of skatebarding there in the past (used to live 10 mins drive from there)

I'm in East London now so will have to get down to Rom on a Sunday soon!

I agree, I was really surprised when I opened the box and took a look at the frame, the quality and attention to detail are great, especially for a frame costing 35 sovs. I just need a set or brakes and I can hit the mean streets for some much needed practice!!

Onve it's all there I'll post up in the museum..
