Wow! Thats a question and a half, ive seen so many superb riders over the last 28 years I wouldnt know where to start but I do know that the "Kelloggs" series threw up some dream gates, March, Ruffles, Leary, Rupe, Patterson and co, dont think they come much better than that, might be a bit of a mis-match to throw em in with the new school lot though coz the skill level is just sooo much higher these days, but what a question!

It's too hard to pick just 8 riders from every era of BMX as the tracks were so wildly different and riders these days are probably braver and more gifted riders.

I saw Tommy brackens at a race in Brookville Ohio in july 1982, it was a warm up race the wed before the Worlds nearby in Dayton, all the top pro's were there including Stu, Greg Hill, Leary etc, this was when they were at their peak & no-one anywhere in the world could get near them.

The final was a who's who of then & pretty much the same riders that made it at the worlds a few days later,

Brackens gated so hard & fast he powerewheelied all the way to the first turn over the jumps in the first straight without the wheel coming down at all, it actually span backwards with the acceceration he put in, Stu Thompson passed him in the second straight to win & take the money,

It was almost as i Brackens was suprised to be in the lead & froze as Stu went by.

Stu gave me his trophy from that race.

That was to this day the best race i ever saw if only for Brackens front wheel spinning backwards for the whole straight!!!!!

I did actually forget Gary Ellis  but I would probably put Pistol Pete ahead of him.

That's why choosing 8 from all eras of BMX is impossible.  No room for the likes of Ellis, Terry Tenette, Steve Veltman, John Purse, Tommy Brackens, Bubba Harris, Mike Day, Donny Robinson, Stumpy, etc.

If I had to pick one though, I think Leveque in his prime would be my choice as best BMX'er ever.

my memory only spans 1980-83 then 2005 -now, but having spent months at a time racing in the U.S there were loads riders that were mind blowing out there then, def too many to list, most of them you'd never have heard of anyway!

I was lucky enought to have raced some of the guys you mention, like Pistol Pete & Gary Ellis, (he had a full beard at 15!!)

There was a guy called Dave 'magic' Bovell, he was as quick as they came & could beat anyone but got hardly any recognition.
