Birmingham Wheels Track
« on: December 31, 2008, 04:04 PM »
Just been down to the world famous birmingham wheels track with sam27 to see what it is like after many years of neglect took a few snaps..stii got the old birmingham wheels sign lying in the ditch as well.
Some good jumps which we are going to ride when the weather pics ups but mostly it is overgrown now which is a shame.
Sam27 will post a few more snaps later to give you an idea of what its like also if anyone has any good pics from bitd it would be good to see the track as it was in its heyday- seems a shame to see it lying in waste :daumenhoch:

daz bmx it!

We couldn't decide which part was the start hill its pretty overgrown and goes down in 2 different directions...sam27 is posting his pics later so maybe you can tell from his.

If you follow the access road from the car park up the hill, go past the banger track on the left. On the left is a strange walled thing, that is where the original wheels track was. The "International" track was over the other side of the access road, with the start hill running parallel with the road. Hope it makes sense

Worth checking out...with a bit of elbow grease it could be a fun place to ride...couple of the jumps will double up nice as ramps the angles seem cool for kickturns and the like...some of the jumps just look plain evil :D
Will be going again when the weather is better it was frozen solid today.

State of the current trails may be due to the proposed track at Perry Park, but don't hold your breath.......

the international track is the one that we took the photos on and shine was riding,i think the original track is another go-kart one now.I went up there not so long back and spoke to a couple of lads at a kinda reception and they said there is a lad(mark i think)that is involved in the track as it actually looks better than the last time i seen it,i suppose its all about finance and resources, through me a bit though as the entrance bitd was off the 8 bus route.I remember when i was a kid one of the older lads that i would ride with and who i used to look up to ,was a factory rider for birmingham wheels called Steve Grice, but im waffling now, definately looks better in the summer mind

I rode for Birmingham Wheels when the team was first formed, Along with Trev and Pat Robinson, Ant But and Dean Bateson. There weretwo tracks , the second was built for the Euros in '83 with a massive downhill  and pro section.
both tracks were great to ride  :)

Don't know how old this is but I found it on the net some time ago. Says the track is currently under development etc.

Loved the wheels euro track. Raced it back in 83 and it became my favourite track. Does anyone remember Pete Middleton  crashing on the camels in the pro section and when he stood up he had 1 half of his pro class bike in his left hand and the other half in his right hand. Classic!

Also, just in case there are people who haven't seen them, these are old school pics from the early 80's that I posted previously. The first couple are of the start hill and first speed jump at the Wheels Euro track.
