they are there on old skool pics/vid's but when and why did they die out?

People discovered transitions.  Mini ramps were born. Kickturns were replaced with tyretaps....  Late 80s I'd guess?  Don't really know, as I wasn't riding then. When I retired in 84 it was still all about the trick ramp  :)

very late 80s - early 90s the whole thing changed

miniramps took over big time, and byebye coasters

They all broke due to the weight of the bikes bitd
