tap and dye
« on: December 17, 2008, 02:03 AM »
Does anyone have a standard 10mm 3/8 dye I could use to rethread my slightly stuffed 10mm rear axle?
I also need a 14mm tap to rethread a few stuffed 10mm - 14mm axle converters I damaged when trying to thread onto said stuffed 10mm axle!
Ill pay for postage from your address to mine and back to you again!  Thanks

I probably have them but cannot check until I get home from work at 7pm.

Is it not easier to replace the axles dude?

You'd have to take the axle out to cut the threads anyway, so whilst it's out, just replace it with new (upgraded?) axles?

Grease those balls!

Standard tap/dyes wont be the same thread pitch as your axles, the axle will have a finer thread than a standard 10mm bolt for example.

do you not have an old stainless steel nut that you could run over it with a few times?

Haven't seen any dies on there yet, but I bought a set of three 3/8x26tpi bicycle thread taps off ebay (uk) last week.

6 quid posted... dunno how good they are, but I'm only using them to thread a custom aluminium spacer.

Will see if I can find the link again.

Brian.

Do you get the equavalent for 14mm axles?  Please post the link if you find it.  (should be under "won" in "my ebay")

got it:
