« on: December 15, 2008, 10:10 PM »
evening.... tried fitting a generic headset(cups) to my mongoose cali and found the headset cups are no where near a tight fit in the head tube, is it an inch and an eighth eadset on these or have i just got a shit headset, there is a good 1/4 of an inch around the cups when placed in the frame....

therock recently had the opposite problem (too much headset, not enough headtube) and found a likely reason. I suspect you an he need to swap headsets!

i had a similar problem years ago and had to shim the cups a tad but not 1/4 of an inch , the one i have has sealed bearings in the cup and is not a cheap and nasty (£10) anyone got any cups going spare, the original mongoose ones ive taken out are not good enough to go back in, although the locking collars and mongoose stamped lock are, any help appreciated...
