I have no proof of this, but I would say earlier.
The reason being, I was running these when I was kid and I am sure I had left the sport by the time I was 14, to persue my interest in trial riding. I was born 1969.
So, I guess, either I am mistaken, maybe I was 15, but difinately before I was 16, as I was on my moped by then. Bearing in mind , I was riding them, not just bought them, if you get my meaning.

Indeed, my Mk1 Ultra (with front gusset) had 7x's..
But the Aero Burner at the same did have Araya Aeros. I'm pretty sure I had my burner around 83, so Im putting fwd 83 at least...

On this site (more racer bikes) they reckon araya done aero rims as early as the 70's and reissued a modified version in 84
http://www.yellowjersey.org/adx.html

Early model 1978 ADX-1 used a small aluminum insert at the nipple, (a lot like Mavic CXP-30). Araya redesigned the ADX in 1984 with a thicker center extrusion. . The improved model with thicker apex and nipple seat milled in obviated the inserts and gained legendary durability.

So maybe the araya aero was made in 20" earlier than the 80's but perfected 83-84 ish.

February 1983 for Vol3 Issue 5.   It was BMX Weekly upto Vol 3 Issue 7 and then Bi Weekly from Vol 8 onwards.
