i'm looking into this as i have to find work anyway

can anyone give me an idea of what steps to take?

say a massive warehoise in harlow is the venue.what next?

as i am involved in a mtb park(although private) i have experience with insurance.will look to get sponsers/set up as a charity

You might be able to get funding from the landfill tax credits scheme. I work for big waste management firm (Biffa) and Biffaward (our charity bit) fund quite a lot of BMX and skate facilities, including the new skatepark in Saffron Walden (Nothing to do with me

) You can apply to Biffaward for up to £50,000 (for set up capital - not running costs) if you are within 10 miles of a Biffa landfill, which Harlow probably is (Westmill landfill in Ware). Even if you are not near a Biffa landfill the chances are that you will near one run by someone and most the big companies run similar schemes (Veolia, WRG, Shanks). As I think twobobrob said a few days ago most skateparks don't make money these days as a standalone...

I'd been thinking about this as I've always wanted to do something which benefits the community..

Looking at the american skateparks - lot of them offer so much more than just a skate park. Even here we are seeing skateparks evolving... in fact any type of leisure facility evolving - look at Xscape in Castleford - all sorts of stuff there...

As its the parents / older generation who have the cash - get these guys in and you're laughing.

You could include...

Skatepark
4x track (I know there are some indoor ones in the UK)
Creche facilities
Climbing wall
Jungle gym / soft play centre
Internet
riding lessons / tuition
Cafe / bar / restuarant - (how much have me and my mates wanted to go somewhere half decent, let the kids go mental and have a chin wag and perhaps a beer / ride)
Even a beauty salon for the wives... !

Sort of a high adrenaline sports / recreation centre.

I know corby has some mentally big plans but don't see why this couldn't work elsewhere (nearer Cheltenham)

The vans skatepark in Florida, has a retail outlet attached, or could be the otherway round, the park is attached to the retail outlet, hire of equipment. Has an overhead walkway with tables for grown-up adults to have lattes and read the paper. Can you build it at Lakeside, the old Courts building has been empty for ages. Isn't Unit23 or some other park in Scotland in a shopping mall?

Some pics of VANS from the walkway, there is also a small outdoor section, you can see the sunshine to the left of the bowl. Never got to ride the place though.
