giving the ripper a rebuild for the 06's riding

as it was:

stripped the black from the frame, wirewool/soapy watered the yellow etch off the alloy
then polished it. couple of times with autosol, then once with brasso. all by hand

its nice and shiny. taken me a while though.
got some new redline cranks to go on (chrome) and will clean up the rest of the parts that were on it before.
when i get the LG's back from the welders' i will spray them then reassemble ready for bones jam!

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life - but i'm curious.....now that the frame is stripped and looking very fab indeed - does it need protecting in anyway? ie some sort of laquer to stop the aluminum losing it's gleam? surely you'd have to have the patience of a saint to acheive those sort of results - how long did it take?

what's the crack with non-looptail rippers then? cos to me it looks awesome? are there any pros and cons to getting a non-looptail apart from the desireability?

well i polished it about 3 weeks ago and it is still shiny, but with some fingerprints.
it did take me a while to do. a fair few hours. but the longer you spend doing it, the better it will look. its all in the preparation before polishing.
the hardest bits were getting around all the tube joins, getting the paint off, then the etch primer.
worth it though as it looks a lot better

as for desiarability, the older ones are gonna be more sought after
the newer ones like mine however, are more ridable. mine is standard length, 36" wheelbase

when i bought it the frame was 260 (in 2002)

good looking out on the wax idea orb i will try that ;)
