it has been and its just listen read threads and articles and opinions
well i read and listened and listened some more, but after watching mike o'connell
riding with a very basic ad990 at about £10 the choice is yours.
a £100 pair not set up well against a dialled £20 set   it would choose the £20 set.

but Hombres work for about £10

it's all about setting em up, sanding the blocks, getting good blocks, cleaning your rim, tweeking.

Jedi's front brake will have you over the bars, my Hombre, just stops me.  :daumenhoch:

hombre's are good. as people have said, its about the setting up. some 990's have poor grade alloy, and flex more though.

ive found primo e brake to be good, but evolvers are my fav.
I want to touch ORB

Dia compe 999 box u brake by far the best working , lightest and best value for money only at cyclesports tho at £30 each , angled and straight , every were else they are £50 and £45 . I wouldn't use anything else unless you don't want to spend that much , so go for the diacompe mil hombre or ad990 , be carefull tho if you have a frame with removable lugs as the canti type brake block setup won't fit and you will need a standard block set up (threaded post not canti post)

Do you know if the AD999 can be run as a front brake Obbie? i Seen Cyclesport were doing them at that price but there web site only lists the angled version.
I seen one set up last week it was nice, very similar to a Fly.

they do a cs model and s ss model     so one will not be angled and usable on the front.

ive had tektros working bang on, and hombres, never had any of the new fangled ones, fly etc, so cant comment on these, but as has been already said, i think a lot of it is in the set-up.

spend a score on a set of hombres, and fettle them, if they dont work, youve only lost twenty squids.

Dave
haro, how do you do

as already said its all in the set up, i run a fly brake on my new school bike and a ad990 on my mid school bike, both use the same make of pads and both are just as good as each other

the best answer to this thread would have been:

"you can put brakes on new school bikes?"

 :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

but I stand by my original statement, Hombres, and I've just discovered a slic, but not the linear version, brake cable lets you get the front shorter with a tighter bend, you can't get the bend as short with a linear cable, and the shorter the better.

(thanks to S&M alex for this info, he's really flash though and runs most of his front in linear outer, then has a joining ferrule and uses non-linear outer for the bend)

have to say i've never seen the point of using a linear on the front as the whole point of them is that they don't bind up when spun (on the rear) so if you use one on the front where is the spinning?  they stay static and spin with the forks and bars.......so why spend twice the amount on a linear when a normal slick cable will get a smaller bend and work just as good?

oh and Hombre for me  :daumenhoch:

Linear cables are better than coiled outer cables because they dont compress as much, so you get a less "spongey" feel to the brake. They were first used on index gear cables to help keep the lever in sinc with the rear mech.
