I nabbed some graphite tuffs off the 'bay for my first build, huzzah!

Not paying too much attention to the fact that the front axle is 10mm as per normal, but the rear axle is 14mm

Would you believe - as I offer up the rear to the frame the axle is too big for the dropout. D'oh!

So my question is what to do apart from take an angle grinder to the dropouts

not a very good idea eh?

Can I get and fit a 10mm axle to the wheel?

you can replace the rear to 10mm i think new ones come with the alternative studs
if you have a decent frame dont grind it out.

Not sure if a 10mm alex will fit that wheel, but Peregrine made some 14mm alex's with flats on them that were 10mm so they could be used on both 10mm & 14mm frames, you could get some of these if nothing else will work

well it's an Aero Reflex so...

...only kidding, it would be a very poor solution to the problem - I try and limit my bodgery to decorating only.

if your axles are hollow with said allen key hole then they might be able to be purchased

or just grind down a flat section on the axle to fit in the dropout.

cheaper to replace an axle if you need to further down the line......

my Graphites have allen key axles, both sizes - interchangable

I bought mine about 4 years ago, why and when did they change them to/from stnd axles ??

Don't want this to sound like a daft question, but is there any chance that it isn't a 14mm axle, but a 10mm axle with adaptors fitted, like these?
(I dunno much about what way graphites are setup, but just thought I'd mention it on the off chance)

(You can get these with a closed end as well, which would look very like ur axle end..)

grind the axles flat on both sides.

to 10mm.

ive done it several times, just be careful, bit by bit.

Nope definitely not like that - which is a shame 'cos that looks like a very trick bit of kit indeed...

I shall get a hold of the tool to remove the freewheel (newschool I believe, it has slender teeth on it) and take the axle apart to see what I can see... if I can get a duplicate 14mm axle I'll have a pop at grinding some 10mm flats onto it - I'm just nervous of damaging stuff.

Take it to a machine shop & as opposed to grinding the whole diameter down, just take a nick off both sides to create a channel: dont do the entire length of axle or you'll have problems with your nuts....if you know what I mean. It'll probably cost you a beer & 5 minutes.

Oh & you start with high stakes...graphite tuffs on the 1st build....respect!

It took a while but I tracked down some 14mm axles flatted to 3/8"

So I'm in business - the added advantage is that the frame doesn't chew up the threads on the axle and cause a 'tight spot' that its a bugger to get your nuts past. If you see what I mean.

My Reflex sho is looking nice now

Chris are you sure that they are graphites ?

They look a bit too black to be graphites, and as far as I`m aware all graphites come with sealed bearings and 10mm allen bolts rather than axles

Not 100% as I'm no expert - but they were sold to me as Graphites.

Although they don't have the gold lettering on a spoke, they do have the gold hubs with sealed bearings. They look quite a bit darker than they are (if you see what I mean) 'cos they're backlit from the patio doors

it's my electro/acoustic - I have a pink Flying V uke too but to be honest its a terrible instrument but looks awesome.

I have no idea who made the tele it has no markings, no transfers and not a single serial number anywhere! - bought it in a music shop in Chester a few years ago. The owner told me a story about a factory in Asia that was tooling up to make them and it being one of the run of prototypes - might be complete BS... but its interesting handing it over to a guitarist and asking their opinion on it - some are reluctant to give an assessment until they know who made it and what the 'official' opinion is. Perish the thought that you play the bugger and decide if you like it or not
