you can replace the rear to 10mm i think new ones come with the alternative studsif you have a decent frame dont grind it out.
or just grind down a flat section on the axle to fit in the dropout.cheaper to replace an axle if you need to further down the line......

Don't want this to sound like a daft question, but is there any chance that it isn't a 14mm axle, but a 10mm axle with adaptors fitted, like these?(I dunno much about what way graphites are setup, but just thought I'd mention it on the off chance)(You can get these with a closed end as well, which would look very like ur axle end..)Brian
Chris are you sure that they are graphites ?They look a bit too black to be graphites, and as far as I`m aware all graphites come with sealed bearings and 10mm allen bolts rather than axles
