Peg Stalls
« on: November 19, 2008, 02:15 PM »
Right, I'm after some advice...

Just learning how to peg in on ramps and looking to start working up to doing Peg stalls and grinds etc...

Can someone give me some advice on how to begin working up to getting this under my belt? What should I focus on first?

I've found a nice mini ramp about 10mins from me which I can use, I just need a step by step guide!!!

Cheers in advance.  :daumenhoch:

Practice Practice Practice.
Been trying to nail these for nearly a year and a half.
Spend a hole night and nail them.
Dont ride for a week - start all over again.
They will gradually get easier - so THEY say! LOL
Take them slow!

Concentrate on your rear peg, as this is the one you'll miss more often. Sort out your lean angle - you'll need to lean the bike over more on a mellow ramp.

If at all possible, try and learn on something steep. I know it's scarier, but it'll be better in the long run  ;)

Personally, I learnt little short peg grinds first, then I shrunk them down to stalls  :)

Do I have to be carving parallel to the coping then hop onto the coping or is it coming at the coping at an angle then hop parallel?

The second one.   :)

Do you ride regularly with someone who pegstalls?   If so, just session with them.  If you don't, find someone!!

And don't just have one stab at it then haul yourself up onto the deck. Instead, set yourself up on your pegs and double peg back in and go again.

I've been trying these for months now and I'm still miles away.,

as Rob says steeper and bigger is better.

there's two approaches, carve up and push the pegs on, and grind, hopping the back on.

or ride up, and I'm told turn the bars and your hips and on you go.

i'm not leaning the bike into the deck enough and so my pegs don;t hook up. i'm sh1t.

I think i'll never get the easiest trick in the book.

I'll be spending some time on these tomorrow....again.

I spent kinages trying to sort these as well.

If you wanna grind, try carving more, but if your only stalling, you don't need to come in at such a mellow angle.

One tip I heard Jay Miron give on a vid was to remember that since you can't see your rear peg, just make sure your BB is in close to the coping and your peg will follow.
(Or something like that!)

Once I got the pegs onto the coping, the biggest problem I had was not leaning into the ramp enough, I was keeping my centre of gravity over the bike and falling over onto the deck, as opposed to leaning over into the transition more.

So keep ur bike pushed over towards the coping/deck and keep ur body kinda leaning over into the ramp more.

And lots of practice!

my problem's just the opposite, I get the bike close, my weight not far enough onto the deck so the bike doesn't slide on.

thanks Bob, I feel better about spending months trying them now.  :LolLolLolLol:

Mine come and go like a whore's punter!

Follow 2bobs advise and you will have it.......trust me!

Thanks for the advice, loads of pointers, may go for the grind first then squeeze it down to a stall..

Only time I really ride with others is at Corby, mainly because I go out on mu lunch break locally and the parks are dead (and I've got no friends)

I may start trying to get up to Creation or Motion on Thursdays if time permits...

Creation mini ramp is an excellent ramp for learning stuff. It's the right height, and just a touch on the mellow side so as not to be too scary.

Cant remember who told me, Rob or Phil, but start from a peg stall, helps to get the speed right, if I ride in I end up jumping out onto the platform.

This might help aswell

No substitute for practice though :daumenhoch:

Just spent 2 hrs on the mini ramp and can now hop into position to Peg stall / grind so quite pleased.

I suppose the next stage is getting to a point where I can consistently do it and then lobbing your weight over to get the pegs on the coping...?

Also, managed to get my "Smith in" a bit more consistent and even managed to smith in off the Mini ramp extension (foot higher and not as mellow) which I'm really pleased with!!

Rock on!!!!
