How to strip anodizing ?
« on: November 11, 2008, 12:40 PM »
Can anyone help - I have an old Tuff Neck stem from '84, which is a lovely shade of anodized lilac (yuck !), which I'd like to strip and polish.

I seem to remember that you could use oven cleaner to remove anodizing without damaging the surface, but I tried that last night (left it on at least 10 hours) and it didn't make any difference. The stem is still a lovely shade of yuck.

Any suggestions which don't involve using wet & dry paper ? I'm interested in any sort of chemical that would remove it.

Thanks guys - I guess I should have looked in the stickies for the answer.

The one I tried wasn't this brand, so I'll have to get some and give it another go.

Cheers !!!!
