won this n had a nightmare gettin it over, huge huge HUUUUGE THANKS to a radmember on here who saved the day for me and helped out with shipping from the states.

It arrived this afternoon and i think its fookin awesome! the forks are in landing gear territory if not bigger with double walled fork steerer, big tubes all round built in seat clamp 21 1/4" tt original paint n decs, its built like a brick sh*thouse, not the lightest of frames tho. anybody an idea of year? no serial to be found, i know theres one on bmx museum thats had lugs added but thats got a serial #. the owner of clayborn contacted me after i won it and tried to get it off me but i think i upset him saying im gonna thrash it first but he can have first offer when im finished :LolLolLolLol: so i don't feel i could ask him for info ::) :LolLolLolLol:

aint measured headtube but it is very short, the thinner tubes on the back end look alien to the beefy fronts, at least the rear drops have been welded considerately towards the inside, loads of freewheel clearence :)

Nice frame Daz. Clayborn made some funky frames over the years.

The late David Maw's brother Jonty was riding one a few years ago, aluminum if I remember righty.

Is the owner still Bill Madden?

Very nice Daz , was that the one I saw on ebay ? .

probably, end of octoberish i won it, £41  i asked about postage before i bid and he said $65 which is about right, after i won it he said $200 was the cheapest he could find, a top dude stateside on here helped me out big time so it ended up costing me £100ish all in in the end which im more than happy with.

clayborn came out of florida in the early 90's and were an alternative to s+m, being a heavy duty made frame with a team of dirt jumping riders.
i'm pretty sure they were made at fabweld and the bill madden connection seems correct.
backyard distro'ed a VERY  small amount in the uk and dave bishop rode one at one point.

Jonty's was a steel frame, I remember as he came round to show me it after I put myself in hospital doing hand rails. Thats the last time I saw Jonty and thats going back year... absolute top fella! Anyway he sold it to Stanny... I asked about if a few times having seen the the frame/bike between then and now but was always told the current owner wont sell it!

Sweet Clayborn. I had a 93 Backbone  and it didnt look anything like that one except the built in seatpost clamp. I cant remember but I thought the Backbone was the 21'tt and the Express was a 20"tt. Mine was chrome with chrome backed foil stickers. I beat the snot out of that f/f and it never wimpered once.

i got confused with the name, mine is one of the first batch 89/90 and is a 21" backbone (i thought there was just one frame option called the backbone express originally) did yours have the funky headtube setup with the extra tube from the TT to headtube that the downtube connected to? (new clayborns still use this set up)

they ride fookin awesome, totally unlike other frames of that era that ive ridden, a couple of shameless pics of mine in action from last month

No extra tubes, It pretty much was the classic 2 triangle design. It looks alot like this one http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/clayborn/2143 same headtube decal as well.  I dont know if the one in the link is a 90 as stated. If it is, Clayborn didnt change its graphics for atleast 3 years.
