Ribby Hall

Does anyone remember the Ribby Hall track in Wrea Green, near Preston?

I used to race there as a youngster, would be great if anyone had any old pics of the place or just to share a few memories..

After the Ribby track got bulldosed I used to go to Preston Pirates track near the Preston North End footy ground, anyone remember that?

Hi  PP,

I raced once at the Ribby Hall track and several times at the Preston track during 83/84.

I cant believe we rode from Preston to Ribby Hall with all are gear and spent the day racing then rode home, i'd think twice about driving there now  :-[ I managed to get a trophy that day aswell, one of very few!!

I only lived 2 minutes ride from the Preston track and used to spend what seems like all summer there. Used to hang around with Darren Fletcher, Shaun Key.

What years where you racing? Did you used to live in Preston?

I've dug out the trophys from the back of a cupboard it's a bit sad but i was ever so proud of them bitd.

Sorry about the size of the pics, seems that Photobucket does'nt want to resize it.

                                       Phil.

Can't see why you think it's sad. Nothing wrong with having a bit of pride my friend. Well done I say  :Great_Britain:

My good god!!

I have a Ribby Racers trophy exactly the same, 2nd Novice, from my very first race there!!

I think it must have been 85 when I raced there though, I'm 27 now and got my first race bike (Mongoose Californian) for my 7th birthday so that would about tie in...

I didn't really know anyone from the Preston track, I used to hitch a lift down there with a couple of guys from the Ribby track after it closed. Chris, Steven and Colin Gregson.

I used to live about a mile away from the Ribby track in Wrea Green as a kid.

My old man reckons he has some pictures of it somewhere, I must go and raid the photo boxes next time I'm up visiting them!

Yes fair play to you for keeping all your trophies

I threw boxes and boxes of trophies along with all my race gear, helmets and number plates, rule books and records of every race and moto I ever raced in when I moved house 3 years ago.

That was just before I got back into the Old School BMX scene again

How gutted am I now ! :( :uglystupid2:

PP,

i seem to remember the Ribby track used to turn 90 degrees left after the first straight then my memory gets a little hazy on the rest of the track.

I cant find any pics of either track so if you could post of any you find would be great.

Fantastic pics Sam, thanks alot for posting them. The Preston tracks pics bring back a hell of a lot of great memories for me, and the bottom Preston pic also confirms that the jump in the background was as big as i remember it.

                                   cheers, Phil.

You're welcome....always glad when I get to see other peoples pics of tracks I visited.

Yep....that tarmac jump was BIG.

Was lucky enough to get my hands on some 80s footage which had lots of preston on.....have to get a still of it and post it up so you can see the track more.

Anymore pics of the Preston track would be great.

I dont suppose you have any pics of the old Chorley track that was in the quarry in your photo album? We used to get the train there whenever we could, even raced there a few times.

              Thanks again, Phil.

Hey Sam, the Preston pic is great. Anytime you get time is fine for the Chorley pics.

             Thanks, Phil.

My old man was the chairman of Ribby from about 1984.

Ivesy, where are you from then? Are you a Wrea Greener?

You'll probably know the Gregsons if your dad was chairman of the track?

Would be good to see that DVD footage at some stage too!!

Ivesy's probably go the same copy as I have of the NBMXA national in 84 at Ribby.
Is it the one with Tim March giving the finger to the crowd Ivesy?
On the video I have is a UKBMX national at Wigan the next day? I think.

Wigan was indeed the next day (it was my first ever UKBMXA race).
Ribby Hall was the first chance to score some points in NBMXA Nationals. Geth it must have been your second ever National after the abandoned Nottingham round, mine too.  ;)

Taken from BMX Bi-Weekly Vol4 Issue 10.

Exactly the same as you then Derrick.
Ribby was my first national apart from the unfinished nottingham one.
I won cruiser and was battling with Scott Williams for the lead in the 16's when we both crashed.
The UK national next day was my first ever UKBMX national.
Looks like you didn't do too bad with a second at your "first" national too!

Thats some stacked final too......Ant, you, Dale, Damien, Chris, Jarvis & Lunn!!!

Happy days......... :smitten:
