Have a look at the Proper Magnalite brakes they look nice and the blocks i'm told are very sticky i have one on order so can let you know when i get it set up if you like.
Revenge Industries also do a nice u-brake but its pricey.

I have the Revenge on my bike - it's awesome now I've set the fooker up correctly!

The Demolition is supposed to be excellent, everyone I know with one

And I just installed a Primo E Brake to a customers bike today and they are real postive and grippy too - light as well. Good price too.

These may be not as pricey as i thought sure they used to be silly money just seen em for 60 so similar to Fly but they do have sealed bearing pivots.
Gets pricey when you run two brakes though which i'm guessing you do.

Got one on my UK Bike Co and it certainly works...even with Pete's fat arse on Monday it was stopping him for tyre taps.

Now I would have though in this day and age, that any U brake that doesn't flex and runs on bearings instead of bushes must be a step on from the good ole AD/Hombre.

If they ain't, then you're better off sticking with the £10 old trusty that definately works?

There are loads of great brakes around, all should work good as long as you set them up correctly.

So, it depends on budget...my recommendations:

£10-£20 - Dia Compe AD990/Hombre/Whatever!
£20-£30 - Primo E Brake
£30-£40 - Dia Compe CNC
£40-£50 - Demolition
£50-£70 - Revenge, Fly or Proper (but my money would go on the Revenge)

i used to run a revenge brake and they work ok but look cheap as they basicly use all dia compe hardware which is a shame as when u pay £70 for a brake u expect them not too have parts from other manufactuers on them all in imo of course :daumenhoch:

i now run a fly brake with kool stop supra 2 blocks, the brake is excellent, no flex, good looking and if u run the blocks the opposite way round to what is shown on them then the braking is awsome infact it works better than the hope mono 4 pot hydrolic disc brake on my mtb :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

I agree with you Kev - they are a bit disappointing in terms of the DC hardware and the side-on view (the best angle is face on like the pic above).

Got to admit, biggest bang for buck have got to be the Primo E Brake and the Demolition.

yeah i forgot about the side view, due to the bearings they are quite bulky looking from the side

I set up a Suelo on my mates flat bike & it was far too powerful! just a bit snatchy but we swapped out the stock pads for some Odyssey pads & it made it into a wholy different experience. You still have the sure footed lock up when you need it but the modulation is far better. Looking for a pair of slim by 4's for mine now :daumenhoch:

Not seen anyone running the Propers yet but all those holes in them don't float my boat...

I have just set up my new bike i had intended fitting two proper brakes with there clear pads as I'm running anno rims, I like a fat tyre on the rear but the proper brake fouled the tyre so i fitted a Fly brake with the proper pads as the fly has much more clearance.

My problem now is that the brakes are just too good to the point where i have lost my tricks as the slightest dab of the brakes locks the wheels and i am used to feathering the brake on rolling tricks.

Should I leave them and try and get used to them (there obviously awesome for some tricks) or should i change the blocks as i suspect this is wear the problem is.
Can anyone recommend a block that works on anno rims but wont be as severe as the proper blocks.

Sorry Dan i know this was your thread but thought it was a good place to post this. :daumenhoch:

Dan, not had much luck with the Propers, I have explained the situation with the rear although fine if your running thin tyre, The proper's are not really ideal for a front brake as you can see from these pics check the cable angle.

Steve have you tried 'toeing in' the pads on the fly brake, makes em bite less severe and squak less...  :daumenhoch:

Although i forgot to do this when i swapped frames...  :-[

Undo the pads and re-tighten with a ten pence piece under the trailing end of the pad with the brake pulled on (i think the trailing end) and tighten em back down, stops the squealing and takes the edge off the bite...  :daumenhoch:

Someone will correct me if i'm wrong on which way round (leading or trailing edge of the pad)
