Martin, is that jump practically identical to the big one on the second straight at the old hayes track, cos from memory looks just like it, and thats basically how i took it, running in front of Simon Hayes, landed a bit back heavy and was using 1 1/8 rims at the time and it just exploded on landing.

yes that's the place scott,
from left to right it's neil javens, mathew lydon,me,lydons cousin and dave leonard and woody jumping, the actual pic is a lot clearer i've have to get it scanned at put on here.

woody was the best high jumper ive seen,he could clear some right heights,we once had a comp at the tarmac with some lads from rothwell and he cleared an oil barrel  and  a couple of car tyres off a tiny jump.

When I raced in the 70s (yes, I know that is a long time ago :)) we did not have 'doubles'. We had a different version of big jumps.

If you look in the background of the black & white photo you will see the face of the jump we are going off in the color photo.

Those pictures are from Saddleback, Orange County, Calif. The black & white is from 75, the color is 76.

Awesome piece of history Dennis! I'd love to see all the shots you have from that era. I wasnt involved quite that far back (i started riding bmx as we know it in 78) but i love all that early early stuff.  :smitten:

The colour shot looks just like the sequence in 'on any sunday' about motocross where the riders all come over a drop just like that (maybe its the same place??)

A few years back i rode mtb dh at Mt Wilson with a guy from Burbank called George Pondella who would've been racing bmx around there back in the mid 70's (he'd be around 50 now) maybe you knew him?

I do have A LOT of picture of my time and rather than start posting them all over again, I will bring my old thread up front again.

I spent a lot of time posting over a hundred photos on this other thread.

Look for, "Dennis Dain AKA Red Baron has joined us"

Dennis, i guess you'd left Redline by the time i rode for them, the picked me up in late 81 & i left at the end of the 82 season, i did come over & raced in the US in the summer of 82, the guys on the team there then were Stu, Jon Anderson, Greg Grubbs, Denny Davidow (i think), might 've been more but my memory is failing me now!

What years did you ride for them??
