Yeah, I've seen the auction thanks Kev. The seller contacted me a while a go through VBMX, not 100% on how the story goes, but I think he had an offer of $2000 then the 'buyer' pulled out after realising the condition (had a hole drilled in the platform and was a bit rough around the edges).

It's still only the 3rd one we know of for definate. I now own the one Greg found and my old frame went to the USA to be paired up with the forks.

Any excuse for pictures.

They're very sought after by collectors of early freestylers and also by those who collect VDC stuff. When this surfaced on VBMX there was alot of interest, more than I expected, but it seems to have wained.

I don't think it'll reach the BIN price, but it may well hit $1000. As you all know, it only takes 2 collectors who want it to push the price up.

No Idea on total numbers, but looking at the frame number at least 170 were made. That one is a Jan '85 with the later drop-outs and mid-fork pegs. The one I have is an early one (mid/late '84) with campy drop-outs and the high pegs. My old frame was a Nov '84, the forks now matched up to this are low peg forks (same as the VDC freestyle forks only with FA drop-outs).

i didnt offer it to any member on here .moose helped me out big style to get the frame and forks and sell one of my rides so i was obliged and very happy to send the frame to him at his price and we both benefited from the deal .i coyuld have put it on rad for grabs but we had verbally agreed to do the deal and we both stick to what we have said .if it hadent have been for moose i wouldnt have got the freeagent at all i dont think as i wasnt sure what it was at all he knew straight away .

Hey G....I said that tongue in cheek matey - wasn't having a whinge at you!

TBH, I don't realy like it that much but it would fit nice with my VDC stuff.

What is really annoying is that I saw the original one Moose had on the kings cycles website about 3 years ago when I worked at Tricky bikes.

Tim said he had rung them and they said it was just a test page on their website!! Why the hell he said that I have no idea coz I would have bought it straight away.

I'd like to take this oppourtunity to thank Greg again - the deal was a smooth one. :daumenhoch:

It's funny how I'd forgotten all about the Free Agent from BITD, but when someone posted a picture of the prototype on VBMX, it came flooding back and it became a 'Holy Grail' of mine. :smitten:

I think I've been very lucky to own both the frame and this frameset that I have now. Hopefully it will be built up soon with mostly original survivor parts and some NOS bits. 8)

'Campy' drop-outs are indeed Campagnolo

What bars were they Greg ?
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

I'd like to ask if you like it so much because of the way it looks, or is it because of it's rarity, or is there a more nostalgic reason ?

I'm not dissing it, just not my cup of tea, and I wondered if I was missing something  ;)

Cheers

Guy  :)
