another that stuck in my mind

stevenaged about 1996  having a ball ripping around with a few locals
a good rider was riding the bullit the one like at harrow  ,he was getting some good air
then started grinding and just balancing on the edge of the wall, then he just kinda fell over the side
onto the floor ,it wasnt far and landed on his knees and hands but he was KO on the deck
we couldnt see what he did to get knocked out  3 weeks or so we went back and i asked how that lad was
the handle bar had gone in his mouth and busted his jaw    :P

i overheard alex whispering to one of his friends later about it.

Sorry for being Johnny-come-lately to this one, but looking at some of the KOC photos and seeing this thread has sparked some brilliant memories …

Early 90's KOC... Proud owner of a Sherpa Minibus with just me and a mate. Riding a hand-painted Dirt Bros. re-badged Skyway TA.

Parked up at the top of the Skatepark on Friday. Early evening Witness Chase Gouin ripping it up in the carpark next to the pyramid leisure centre (with no cranks in the bike), then a local I used to know (had a fetish for Ford Escorts) rocks up and holds his own (was an amazing flatlander).

Hook up with some mental Scottish lads (Sandy, Ross and someone else long forgotten the name) spent most of the evening drinking & riding around Southsea getting into trouble (Pyramid leisure centre again riding over the fire exit). Come back, van is full of people (forgot to lock-it). Slept on roof.

Next morning the grass around the skatepark looks like nam. People everywhere, beer for breakfast, go watch "the pro's" rinse and repeat for two days. For four years running that was the bank-holiday weekend I lived for…

Me and the van full of people head up to Nottingham for a jam. Meet up again with Scottish lads from KOC – had given Gerry G a lift, been there 5 mins he hooks up of the vert ramp and KO's himself – taken off by St. Johns.

Watch the riding, start getting pissed with Scottish lads all climb into two cars, drive into centre of Nottingham  – very drunk in nightclub, mostly remember walking from the town centre back to the Jam (where my van was parked).

Spent the rest of the weekend sleeping in somebody's house on the outskirts of Nottingham – very funny night.

Love the fact that we did it, couldn't have done half of it now – KOC was like our own little Sturgis, BMX came into town - ripped it up and left.

My fondest memories of riding, and almost 20 years ago now…

I was at both of these comps. The first time I really got to know the Scottish guys. I still speak to Gogo and Grant Smith all the time, top men for sure

backyard 93, im 15 years old and sleeping in the back of a ford escort van with dennis wingham and our other mate piers, first time away from home and first backyard jam, great memories

backyard 94, arrive at the track around midnight, really want to ride so we park up on the grass bank overlooking the track and put the headlights on so they shine across the main jump, had a few jumps before crashing and thinking, best wait till daylight!

it was also the year some german guy with a camera gave me some american football type top to wear whilst he took pics of me riding the main jump, never did find out what the pics were for and the german guy asked for the top back when i was done!!

the great raw sausage and burger fight of backyard 95, 4 car loads of mates parked up in the field
with left over bbq food  so we decide to have a food fight, car windows are all open and its just a total mess everywhere

backyard 96, pulling up to the field gate, windows go down, big plume of smoke pours out of the windows and ian morris (collecting entrance fee on the gate) says " you wont be needing any weed then!"

koc 92 to the end are pretty much a blur, koc was/is my home comp so it was always very messy, pretty much always too drunk to ride after being to chaos, one year i even had appendicitis and still stayed out and got drunk instead of going to hospital :idiot2:

and finally jon pratt, £6.35 raised by southsea locals, a 2nd hand car boot vibrator,  3 in 1 bike oil and ronnie remo with a video camera in the skatepark toilets, need i say anymore?

KOC, early 90s. We got there for the friday night and slept on the grass outside. 3 girls ended up hanging out with us, and my mate was up for some fun. He didnt bother with the better looking one, thinking she would be less lightly to put out. Later, when he was in the bushes outside the skatepark with one of the "lesser looking" girls, she was reluctant to his advances. We all heard him shout out "Come on, Ive alowed for this!"

I proper lol'ed at this.

I have fond memories of LOS but nocrazy stories really.

Except if I think about it I do lol.

Went out to Germany when I was 15 (Koln), took my bike with me on the back of me mums car, and ended up in the local bike shop (Busy Ps I believe). Hung out there abit and managed to blag a trip to Koln skatepark with a couple of the guys there, it was closed at the time and got to ride with them for a couple of hours. Ended up going on a trip to Muchen Gladbach skatepark with a bunch of those guys, in a van with sofas in the back. In hindsight I don't know what my mum was thinking letting me go off on a roadtrip with a bunch of strangers :D
Had a awesome nights riding. Later a bunch of those guys were riding for, and I think maybe the founders of WeThePeople. Only name I remember was Axle.

Reading the bit about Stevenage reminded me of my first proper injury, one day I finally got the courage to drop in and was actually popping tiny airs out of it, before hooking up and slamming to the ground with a crunch, cost me 2 cracked teeth, 20 stitchs in my chin and various other injurys. :4_17_5:

Mad Mick(aka mr Pants) always up to daft stuff at backyard jams.  We were all sat on me mates hire van watching agroup dirt when mad mick walks over and takes a pee all over Dan Galls bike - Dan werent too chuffed about that one - later on mick did a naked fire dance and burnt his nuts on a camp fire.  Might have posted this tail before on here but still makes me laugh.

2hip sacramento 1993
there was a change of venue for the next day to an airforce base for the vert and mini.  Me and my old mate will had got talking to a guy Karl from coventry, who said we could stay where he was staying whilst in california.  Sadly this was Mutt's apartment.  Just before we set off a little sad orphan called grant smith realised he had been left behind by the S&M lot (see "grant smith travel tips" in an early Dig) so we hoy his bike onto Mutt's bike rack and set off. At speed.  Following Mutt down a freeway he is doing 85+ weaving, opening his door sticking his legs out you name it.  Grant's bike shifts off one of the racks to dangle 10cm off the road, flash him to pull over, he jumps on brakes and we nearly rearend the twat.  Turns out he strapped the bikes together but not to the rack.  Sort this whilst he moons and spasms and gurns at rush hour traffic.  at his apartment Mutt goes off to bed and makes odd noises, Karl complains about him masturbating all the time and Will and Grant, at Karl's reassurance, make hugely long phone calls home to friends and family. Believe me transatlantic calls in the 90s weren't cheap.
"fill in the next 5000 miles of roadtrip here, lots of baco uncut live at rampage, a subdued hoffman bikes HQ, a few days in Austin before it became played out, amd the 93 BS finals and lots of masturbatry references by midwest riders"

a few weeks after we get back everybody who received phone calls from grant and will receive howling guttural midnight calls from Concord California "woo now gwant smith woo now wil evwans howwwwwwwwwwwooooooo urf urf you owe me 100 dollars yo muddafika!" etc etc.  Bear in mind will is living at home with his mum and dad. He was as popular as a cock flavoured lolly until Mutt finally gave up...  I saw Mutt again at the seal beach BS finals in 96 (they were shit, horrible TV contest)  I hid under a quarter pipe til he pissed off.  At this same contest I got hit on by Dave Young (not the Geordie one, the street monster one)'s gay housemates as I slept on his sofa, and also had the misfortune to walk in on his little brown behind bobbing up and down on his missus. randy ferret, i only popped out of the house for 5 minutes!!
