Tommy gave me pictures of Ayton Quarry, Southbank National, Grasby National and also a regional at Grasby all from 82/83. Another mate of mine Nigel Hutton is gonna try and find his albums so thats something to look forward to.

How many old photos must there be in peoples attics? Get up there, find them, thats an order  :police:

In the photo of the first turn crash there is a man with a video camera, who is he? where is the film ?   :)

Paul... Now you have sorted the pics (and you were saying the other day how you forget things)... Well im buggered if I can remember going to Grasby twice, but now looking at them, we  must have done. Who took us both times, I know we camped there once when we went with Jack Galloway (Snowing, and do you remember going for a run right around the edge of the quarry at about 6ish just to try and get warm). But im stumped with the other/ Which did we camp at, Natioal or regional?

Yup that's me in the red lid Paul, think Hayesy got 2nd that day and I got 3rd can't remember who won but it might have been Chris Bird as he was the man to beat that year in the North East

I dont know if we camped for the regional or the national and I don't remember jogging round the quarry but I remember that we went straight from Grasby to the indoor race at Ruforth near York. The first night we nearly frozed to death and the second night we nearly starved, geat times

Class.
Was this an NBMXA national?
I think this was my best result in the 10s age group at a national here.
Does anyone remember the Tim March training session at Southbank?

And how many people remember the kids on motorbikes throwing stones at the riders and setting the grass on fire?

Yes, Cleveland BMX club was aligned with the  NBMXA, and yes I remember the Tim March coaching session. As for the antics of the locals, that deserve a thread all of it's own

The track was here -> http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=54.578201,-1.165929&spn=0.001141,0.003433&t=h&z=19

The race was in 83 I think.

And here are a few pics I took a couple of months ago (at great personal risk).

Not much left  :(

I think the big lad on the GT 476 is John Knotman of Johnstons Jets, The mongoose rider 8 in lane eight is Richard Shuttleworth and I am guessing that the patterson rider is the older O'Conner brother.

Just picking up on the earlier Rufforth comment.
Was that the race in an indoor riding school?
I have some weird memory of trying to race on some kind of indoor horse riding surface with no berms.
Awful.
It could be a made up nightmare - or it could have been Rufforth.
Any memories?

Yes that's the one. The surface was a mixture of horse dung and saw dust as I recall. It had been rolled flat and there where no berms, it was a bit like riding on a smelly mattress, totally energy absorbing. The wooden jumps where good and with proper dirt and berms it would have been ok but definitely the worst surface I ever rode on. Remember I came second behind Ben Cook, probably in 15s.

Actually me and my mate Keith Thompson camped inside the arena the night before the racing and once you got used to the stink it was quite comfy.

Gary Oconner in the patterson gear and jason duffy in the blue and red rugby shirt (gate 4)
I have had this picture in my photo album and didnt have a clue as to where it was or when it was . I have a funny feeling i may have fallen off and banged my head.
