How far back in the day do you go?
« on: October 14, 2008, 08:53 PM »
I found some real old photos, which go right back to my 1st bike.

So it got me thinking - how far back can you go ? Post up your real early photos, and lets see how far back we can get !

So these are mine - pre Faze 7 days.

The day I got my 1st BMX in 1979 - a huffy.

Rom performance bowl - 1981 - my all red redline

Rom again - when jumping was rad - 1981

Local jump - 1980

Me and the legend - 1982

The first BMX I saw in the uk was 1978, which was an import direct from the states, can anyone post up a photo from that far back ?

As per usual us poor northerners suffer again, we couldn't afford a fooking camera in 1979 let alone get the film developed!  :LolLolLolLol:

I hear you on that one Daz!
Pictures of me from my childhood are few and far between!
I grew up in Wales and we were dirt jumping single speed bikes with cowhorn handlebars years before I saw a BMX.
I will try to dig up the one crappy photo I have of me on my Diamond Back Silver Streak from 1982 (I think).

It all started for me in 1974, shortly after this pic was taken I swapped out the ape hanger bars and banana seat for an MX set up and headed for the first dirt jump I could find.

I discovered organized BMX in 1979

Early 1980, I discovered "freestyle" while watching RL Osborn and BoB Haro practice on ramps at the Wizard Publication secret headquarters.

Take it back, i just looked at some pictures i have from Rom & it looks like they were taken on the same day in 81 because thats me just about to pop a 360 behind you doing the the one foot table, i'm wearing the same distinctive airtex top in my pics, & the guys over by the performance bowl in the background were there with me that day, (one in an ACE shirt & one with a jacket on with ACE pants!!!!!

How spooky is that????

Spooky ! Especially as I don't live that near to Rom (we had to take a train, and a long tube ride to get there), so I didn't get over there that often.

There is something wrong with my original post for all you eagle eyed bike spotters. Me mate Dave, from the Faze 7 trick team has reminded me that my first bike wasn't a huffy, it was a Team Murray, which I sold to him and he then broke (2 careful owners and no cracks in the frame - honest!). As for the dates on my photos, I'm pretty sure they're right, and I was always a sucker for getting the latest trick part as soon as it was available (in the early days from Alpine Sports in Nottinghill). If I'm not right, then I must be pretty close.........

Great to see all the old, old photos ! Lets have more !

September 29th 1980 (11y/o) - got my first BMX well almost  :LolLolLolLol: a Halfords Turbo in black & Red been hooked ever since.........
will post photos of me in my Halfords Uniform and my bike the day I got it when I get the pics from my parents house this xmas.

so that means I've been into BMX for 28 yrs, and as far as I can remember I've always had a bike throughout those years.

Won this in an event where we collected a certain amount of money from people who paid x amount of cents per mile ridden. I rode a lot, collected the cash, and they gave me this. A Schwinn Hornet.
