Seems to me that the best place for a water hole is just behind the spiral where the blocked pipe came out. We could channel the water into the hole we dug under the little overhanging tree, that way it would be in the shade and wouldn't dry out and it wouldn't interfere with any trails so everyone would be happy. Probably take a couple of hours digging to get it deep enough and fix all the problems.

To change the subject, I won't be doing anything that could cause me injury for the next three months minimum (doc's orders) so that's the end of my riding for the year. Bummer!!!

Had a walk up the quarry yesterday. All this rain in a shitty summer has certainly spoilt lots of days intended for riding. There wasnt a soul about.
Good to see the spiral "out" pipe has been opened up again. I think Paul has a good idea of having a waterhole under the tree. Its the wrong time of year for me to do any digging, but Ill give a hand over the winter if his idea is a go-er.
Is it to early to start thinking of things to build this winter. Id like to think the old berm near the "hip-jump" could be repaired to continue the junior trail. Other than that I aint got a clue.... maybe something down the bottom end?
I might get up for a session one night this week if the weather is fine..... anyone else?
Nige... do you still get up anytime?

Had a walk up the quarry on Friday evening to get the feel of the place again, with the intention of having a spin before the summer is over. A shame it looked cold, wet, full of cans and bottles and feeling sorry for itself :-[

Not many bike tracks were visable either. Is anybody still riding up there?

Hey, I would have come up with you but I had to go out drinking  :buck2:

I've seen a few people going up now and then but not as many as early in the year. Without me, you and Nige doing all the spade work and tidying up all the time I'm not surprised that it's looking sad. I kinda lost enthusiasm a bit when none of the young'uns would give a hand and knackin my back and what not didn't help. At the end of the day if the lads who are riding won't dig then it's never gonna reach it's potential. We put a lot of work in last winter and showed them how it's done, it annoys me off when people take the piss and disrespect the place.  >:(

On a good note Nige was telling me that Jack has jumped the first set of the mini DP, well done Jack  :4_17_5:

I had a feeling you would be, thats why I never bothered to call :P

Funnily enough, when I was up there, my natural instinct was to "do some digging" lol. I had a good look around but couldnt find a spade/rake any where, to do a few repairs. Have they all been taken down or stolen?.
I always knew I wouldnt be able to get up there as much when summer time came (what summer you might ask) due to other commitments but im glad we got all that work done over the winter. With a bit of luck, most of the litter loutes etc have lost enthusiasm as well and their novelty of the quarry has worn away.
Like I said, im gonna have to get off my ares and get a bit of riding in before winter comes. When does anybody still go up?
I will be available over the winter to do a bit of digging again and I think the first job is to get this water-hole sorted. OK it got out of hand over the spiral fiasco so lets let bygones be bygones and make that a priority.
A big well done to Jack for jumping the mini DP 1 :daumenhoch: Nige...get some pics/video posted on here and lets get the thread going again

thats how i've felt for years now lads motivation is hard when your busy and can't get up much... we've been riding a bit up there but not a great deal... its the youngn's that need to keep it alive , bmx has changed . been sayin it for so long now... riders are getting lasy because riding spots are getting thrown at them left right and centre. it might be down but it will never die. mike

hello everyone .i,m surprised that you thought it was looking sad and unused.ive been going up at least 3 times a week all summer .been keeping all the litter down i took 3 bags down on wednesday nite,me and jack did some re lining of the 8 pack last weekend,it,s running sweet.ive got plans in place for the winter for a new set leading up the quarry after going round the big berm so theres a circular trail going on,i,m gunna take out all the shitty little jumps.
i,m as keen as ever just havn,t seen anyone up we have had some great dusk sessions,a pity it,s been just me ,jack and often charlie.
i aint been on here for ages ,it got a bit daft so i didn,t bother i just wanna ride as long as i can it,s as  much of a buzz as it was when i was a kid.i,ll be up tomorrow as usual ,mainly riding and a touch of maintenance.
could do with a bit of pipe if anyone can help me out around 6 to 8 foot it,s for the over flow in the spiral, cheers.i,ve got hold of some covers for the 8 pack jumps picking up rugs mats from all over, they save so much work on maintenance, also got another barra that i rescued well got two and made one good one out of em both.
i,ve also got some aql t shirts on the way if anyone wants one there gonna look sweet, should be cheap as the bloke doing em does all my work stuff and he wants to keep the biz.
all the tools are still up there i have to change the hiding place to keep the la la,s off.
so the quarry is alive and well people just need to turn off the shit tv get off there backsides .

Soz... Maybe thats just the way it looked on that Friday evening after the heavy rain we had last Thursday/Friday. Good to hear you are keeping the litter down :daumenhoch:
Ill keep my eye open for pipes.
Just be careful though when you come to take out some of the smaller jumps... Dont forget some people have to learn somewhere, and your Charlie will be having a bash soon and needs somewhere to learn like jack did, before he progressed to the 8pack.

Great pics :daumenhoch:
The 1st is great, I bet you are not far wrong with what might be going through Charlie's mind.
On the second... I just noticed Jack jumps with his left foot forward like I do. If he ever has a go on a quarter-pipe he will prob' jump to his right.
The last is a great advert for the quarry...love the tractor in the background hay-timing.

Walked the dog (again) up the quarry , just to keep it in mind and hopefully to have a bash again before the summer is over (I was going to have a ride today, but had to take a few peeps to Stokesley show , so I had no time or room to get my bike sorted and in the car). Anyway, as usual Nige and the kids were up there keeping the jumps running and the litter etc down. Like I said before, its a shame, the only time I really have any spare time is in the winter when its usually to wet to ride) so Respect to Nige for keep the quarry ticking over over the summer :daumenhoch:

Hi all, my first post but I used to ride at Ayton occasionaly with Mike Hill, Steve Presland, Keith (is that you Keith thompson? ) & Dan Galloway when he was home with a few of the Wakefield Rehab / Brighouse locals.

It was an ace spot at the time & I've got a few pictures somewhere that I'll dig out & post up.

Glad to see its still running in some form, might venture up there on day when the weather supports it.

Its a couple of hours drive for me but used to be well worth it.

Graham.

I think you have the wrong "Keith"... I had a break from the quarry from the mid 80's until 2009 when I got the bug again, so I missed all the 90's stuff with Mike, Ste and Dan.
You are welcome back anytime (the sooner the better with the winter pending). You will have to get in touch with Mike or Ste if you want to meet them up there. ( Mike is... mikebmx92, if you want to send him a message).

Your talking about Keith Bell   ;)

Havent seen him for about 3 years, but Rico seen him out riding last weekend up hamsterley forest on a big wheeler- think he broke his leg badly a while back and couldnt ride for a year or two.  Be good to catch up with Keith again like, think he's into surfing more than BMX these days.

went up sunday and the trust were up with a couple of cars there was around 8 black bags next to the landrover,i think they had taken the ones from out of the quarry .there wasn,t hardly any litter in the quarry area itself i think it,s mainly under those trees on the level below which we cleared last winter.there was some la,s that left rubbish yesterday like even after being told but what can ya do ?
on a positive note had a good session late afternoon a few good lads up that are coming regular and are keen to build come winter time, but many have said they will help build, often i just like the hard core then it gets done properly but we ill have to wait and see.
wanted to give a shout to ste ,mike and lodgey i,ve text a few times whats happened to em keep in touch.
