Cant believe I got to Guisborough after todays session and it was white over with an inch of snow ffs. Had a few showers of the white stuff in the quarry but carried on reguardless


had the time of my life emptying the water that was stood in the turf area and making rivers


Built a new line heading over a new lip on the back of this berm onto the landing in the middle of it the straight over to Pauls hip-jump

Funny you should mention about trails actually.  We are hoping to change the boundary lines, mostly to open up a bit more space for spectators, however an interesting possibility appeared behind the back of the 3rd and 5th burms which could lead to some trailsy style jumps.

They used to have jumping competition at Magra Park between the races BITD as I recall. All adds to the fun.

The only issue is that the council public liability insurance will not cover un-rolable jumps.

  What has the world come too when @*$#^%~ insurance companies are interfering the design of BMX jumps. Line the bastards up and I'll pull the trigger

no days off for you paul we need all the diggers we can get ;Done thing i meant to ask are you and tommy riding this year ,you must be tempted to get the trails done? i got two plastic bins today thought we could put em in the reeds area  dig em in so the tops at ground level cover with wood to hide em and channel water into em for watering the jumps in the summer.on the look out for some pipe for drainage all week no luck yet .look on you tube under 909 trails sweet trails and sound track.see you all soon AQL

Waiting to see what I can win on E-bay. Wouldnt mind a bash and it would be easier if I could get me son interested a bit more (cant get him away from skateparks and roller-blading)then I can buy a bike for him

I wish , this is her lappy and its like fort knox trying to get anywhere on it. Hope the signs work, looking lately at other trails pics and videos there isnt one scrap of litter anywhere, it must be just with ours been public everyone and anyone can use it. We will have to keep on top of the litter cos if people see no litter it should help to stop em dropping it.
Anyway I was reading about Stu and his posts (I didnt know he'd been ill) .
The nights are getting lighter now, soon as the clocks go forward we'll have to have a few sessions after tea (long as I have a bit of energy left). It funny but I seem to put more effort into digging at the quarry for free than I do at work where i get paid, just goes to show how much the place draws you in.

Brilliant thread that Keith, those early tracks are great , wish we could have built our dream track in AQ, it would have been very similar, following the existing terrain and on a huge scale, a shame it never happened Anyone up for the DP on a side hack?

Looking at those 909 trails, the take offs reminds me of the old 'parachute jump' but with a big landing. Now if we repaired the old take off and felled the trees down the back it would be ammazin    ha ha ... we need some more jumps building!

The bobby probably got bikes and bikers mixed up as motorbikes are banned. What is more worrying is the fact that National trust members are up there collecting litter. It looks like we will have to do more to stop this problem. Hopefully the new signs will help. If we keep it tidy and a member does go up Im sure they will get a suprise and be pleased that some of us "riders" are doing our bit. A good 10 mins litter collection after each digging session should help . Maybe a "NO CAMPING" sign might be an idea.

Yep I remember our plans for a "super downhill track" from BITD. Side-hack over the death-pack......now theres a challenge

Im on dads-taxi duty at 2.30am tonight so ill be up tomorrow when I can if we are having a session. The weather forecast is fine in the morning with light rain coming in, in the aftey.

Late last year I was clearing gorse from our 'Boulder Hill' section when the NT wardens came up. The bloke (the other was a woman) got all official on me about it being NT land and demanded to know what I was doing. Anyway after a bit of a chat he mellowed out but asked/told me not to take out any more bushes. I asked him if he had any problem with me building jumps in the main area and he said it was OK, soooo ... I tend to agree with Keith that the policeman who was up there playing on his bike ... err ... I mean fighting crime  , had got things mixed up. You hardly ever see NT wardens up there and in my opinion we will be OK so long as we keep the place tidy. Most local people are well aware of the trails and have no problem with them, you do get the odd whinge bag who doesn't like to see anyone enjoying themselves and the occasional rambler who thinks that everyone else should be banned but in general people are sound. The only thing that will get us reported by locals is LITTER.

If the NT did decide to ban us without good reason I think we could count on a fair amount of local support if we campaigned against their decision. I would like to think that they would talk to us before doing that, the nightmare scenario is that they just come up and flatten it without warning, it happened once before (BITD, pre NT ownership) when the local council wanted to fill AQ with refuse and tried to make the place look unused, we helped fight against that and won but it was a sickening feeling watching a JCB flattening our hard work.

Its nice to see local dog walkers who pass us when we are either walking up or down to the quarry with spades, wheelbarrows etc asking us if we have had a hard day or been busy etc. A few weeks ago I met a bloke who had lost his dog and we found it in the quarry and I ran all the way back down to catch him up and tell him we had found his dog. When walking back up he told me a story of him and a few fellow dog walkers who were arguing about how we built the jumps. His friend said we must have had a digger and he said "no we had built them all by hand" and his friend was pretty impressed.
Anyway, as long as we keep it tidy, follow the rules and give no reason for the jumps to be squished, then things should be OK. The jumps cant be far away from been "listed" as they have been there knocking on 30 years now
Just a mention of the NT warders, they might have been up there because I wouldnt know who they are so we dont know who is sniffing about. Like I said, give em no reason to show consern and we should be OK

Today's mud bath,

Surfaced the new hip launcher, this jump is about the same size as the big hip but turns in the opposite direction.


We also modified the second set of 8 pack to make it shorter but steeper.


Just need Maccaz to bring the Sun up north next weekend

Is there any science behind jump building? some sort of ratio between height and distance that we should be aiming for? recommended angles etc? Or is it all in the eye?
