2009 Haro Master Re-Issue?!
« on: September 29, 2008, 08:14 AM »
Hi Guys,

Apologise if this has already been posted, but I searched and couldn't find anything.

I've just found out that Haro are remaking a Modern Gen 1 Master. See pics -

Wondered if anyone knows if they'll be available in the UK? And where I can get my hands on one? :)

Ben

Sorry guys, I couldn't find them :idiot2:

Please can you post me the links to the threads - and I'll delete this one.

LOL - this has been a subject of discussion for about 20 months now. You're opening a can of worms in terms of opinions on this one.

I used to support all things Haro, believing that they were really trying to build a decent modern retro of their classics specifically aimed at the riders who supported them over the years (i.e. they produce them just for the love of it).

But, alas, this parts bin, non-listening, no effort POS deserves to stay on the shelf. It is horrible. They clearly haven't thought about their market, nor have they been bothered to listen to the pages and pages of suggestions and input from this forum and Vintage.

At least SE have got their retro bikes right by listening and having good knowledge of their history (albeit some colour combos are a little off - Todd!). FFS even Mongoose had a great stab at it with their nice little retro-goose!

Haro on the other hand run ads showing an 82 Freestyler saying it's a 78 with the strapline 'Know your History'.

This bike is wrong. But this is mainly caused by the parts-bin raiding attitude they have taken towards it. They could have changed just three simple things to make it better - the seat, the chainring and the tyres. It's easy.

I wonder whether you will need an engine hoist to pick it up like the Sport '06 re-issues?  :LolLolLolLol:

Don't want to open a can of worms :crazy2: and I too agree with the above comments.

I just want to know if they will be available in the UK? and if so where?

They will be for sale through all Moore Large dealers (i.e. anyone who sells Haro). Give Generation BMX a shout (PM Phipssio), he'll be able to hook you up.

My advise? From someone who bought the 06 Sport, don't bother.

Bingo - let this thread run...it's all good discussion mate.

I'd suggest frameset only, I think this could be built up into a nice flatland setup with the right parts :daumenhoch:

am I going blind or does every pic of this I see have no front brake?

surely for the type of bike this is it would be an essential requirement?

or do they think the new school kids are gonna buy it cos it has no front brake?

nice looking frame though....shall we run a book on how many lbs the frame and forks combo weighs in at?

Oh dear, Haro could have done so much better; must try harder next time  :-X.

DSD:

stem = Retro Tuff Neck 1 1/8
cranks = Twin Pinch Flights
pedals = DMR v12's
chainwheel = S&M Tuff Wheel stylee
seat post = MacNeil
seat = Macneil SL 2008
brakes = Fly Bikes
levers = DC Tech 77
grips = ODI Longneck ST

Better to crash and burn than fade away

Okay, it'll be easy to rack up the price of this bike beyond it's 'value', so I wouldn't make a long list of nice top end parts.

They just need to change:

Tyres - Black Skinwalls with snakebelly tread. (if they want a proper Haro rep, all black on the front)
Seat - A nice slim thinly padded seat in black.
Chainwheel - Something like the two-piece one on the retro SE's, but with straight arms rather than the slightly slanted SE ones.

That's it, very simple, no additional cost to Haro's beancounters.

well i quite liked the sport albeit "heavy" and i'm getting one of these(i hope) of course they will be heavy but compare most new school bikes to the old school which most of us do and they will seem heavy(and yes i know if you want to spend a fortune you can get new school lighter)
don't picture it as it is PICTURE IT AS IT WILL BE  :smitten:

Oh my God, not this old chestnut again.  Yes apart from the retro frame and forks its crap.  But like any BMX on this damn planet if you want it, you'll buy it and do exactly what you want with it.  Not every BMX BITD was great out of the box, and so nothing has changed.

God its like were still kids and under the christmas tree is a new Raleigh burner.  'But Mum Craig has got a Skyway TA for christmas'.  Shutup and be damn grateful that anyone is bothering.  I know its disappointing and Haro could have done better...but bitching about it will just ensure your next Haro will be black and boring.

well said that man ... didn`t we always get the stock bike and trick it out ? i always wanted a master or sport b.i.t.d but parents couldn`t afford one ,now i can`t afford the old school ones ..i got a re-issue sport  , saved up and got some old school bits  to add to it, i`ve seen plenty of them that look great i.m.h.o , no reason why this won`t be any different !
