NOS ??'tRM f&f threads.................
« on: October 05, 2008, 03:47 PM »
Well I've just had a read through most of (not all...hell would take me all day) of the threads relating to this "nos F&F issue
Not getting a particularly good vibe here
I will not comment on the whole NOS issue as I dont want to get involved ( and before you wonder about my credentials with ref to NOS items; I own a 1955 Oval Beetle ......so know all about rare NOS parts !!)...and also get fed up of people abusing that accronym in the BMX arena with New Old School...WTF is that all about ??...anyway I digress
Thought I would sound the forum out first to see if I would get use out of it..re paying site supporter fee (which I happily do on all other forums I use to any degree) but threads like this dont really give me enthuiasm
I have chatted to a few guys from here and pm'd a few re buying some bits and didnt want to just come on here and buy stuff, but I have even had some static there
Please dont think I am tainting all with the same brush...far from it, I have had some positive encounters
I know most of you are probably thinking , yeah, whatever newbie....on ya way, but this is surely what anyone new to the site is seeing  ??
I'm not a here today gone tomorrow kind of person,  so will not make my mind up right away, but I had to voice my thoughts about how the forum is appearing to me on first impressions

Ok...let me have it   ::)

Well it's always nice to have new members and your timing couldn't be better.  NOS = NEW OLD STOCK not New Old School, not sure where you read that interpretation but anyhow, there you go  ::).  Read the other threads and have a good time, there's lots of good advice and fiun to be found ;).

;D   in VW circles NOS just means not ever fitted or used, it doesnt always account for condition....although you generally hope that its pretty good, but anything 50+ years old is likely to be showing some signs of age    ;)

The important part of NOS is the N. that's where the trouble seems to lie. Mint is mint, but not N. Unused is N and literally nothing else. I want to have, mount, photograph, enjoy and basically use then take off, dust off and then sell it as N again is wrong and taking the piss and there is no grey area here. NOS is also no gaurentee of condition, just ask biagio. But the use of the N is only to get your money back after you've had your use of said item is lying. That's where the friction has come from. There are a few bods on here that like to add there 2 pence worth, but the issue behind the argument remains a constant. It will remain a lie and cause friction as long as members abuse the N and the trust of the community we have built up over many years. We have to look out for each other in and amongst the scammers, even when people don't know they have been scammed. If Looking out for people is wrong, then i don't wanna to be right. AMEN

My tuppence worth  :P

There are over 5000 lads n Lasses all around the same age more or less, all with opinions. You dont get much love in my life experience with a count like that, banter arguments falling out part n parcel of life.
I dont think anything thats happened over the last cpl ov days says anything about anything really. Just a hot topic debated hotly, doesn't really say anything about this site or the ppl on it.

I like the hot topics, shows a passion for this kids bike hobbie we all posses, give or take a few. Long live debate and hot topics, you see how many ppl are into a hot thread and the many contributions.

If your new and are easily offended we have a readers wives section near the door that says staff only  :LolLolLolLol:

Rad is different and good because of it, every w4nker plays their part.
Ill have a steller Newbie  ;)

Thanks for your positive input, I couldnt have put it better and I'm sure 99.9% of peeps agree with that
All I can assume is that there is occassionaly some misunderstanding with ref to NOS items, and agree that NOS before buils/use etc is far more accurate.

NOS is not a big thing to me, I am more concerned about condition...I recently bought a bonnet for my beetle (took my a year to find one good enough) that was mint asside one tiny little bit of rust on the front lip, and I mean tiny....it had been acid dipped and had a thin coat of primer on it for protection....so nothing could be hidden by paint etc
The only reason the guy sold it was he found a NOS one...yes it was in the pile of rocking horse sh*te in the front garden of the gingerbread house    ;)
When I saw the NOS bonnet, I nearly fell over....it looked like it had been kicked about the garage....was worse condition that the one I bought (dents) but he wanted NOS.....my gain though so wasnt going to argue

Puts the whole NOS thing into perspective really   IMHO
