Stodgy was wondering why he hadn't heard from me last week - here's why!
Started out
Wednesday night when we ended up havin' a few pints with this guy -
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=17758970Old friend of mine who skated and bmxed, knew Amos Burke etc.
He works in sound recording, and was starting a new job on TAGGART the next day, which happened to be filming in our street, so he asked to crash at ours.
So that was the first late, alcholic night.....
Thursday night, met up with one of my pals, Craig, and hit Ashton Lane again. Ended up in the Loft and there was a stage gettin' set up. Who's playing we asked?
The Cuban Brothers!
Now I'd only ever seen them on TV on things like The Gumball Rally, and thought they were hilarious, so we hung about to see them.
Typically, they took longer than advertised, so we ended up well pissed by the time they came on!
What a laugh though - absolutely brilliant!
If they're comin' to a venue near you, don't miss 'em!
No pics unfortunately as I didn't have my camera out with me that night - more's the pity!
Friday night was a fancy dress party for my mates sons 21st! (Now there's something to guarantee to make you feel old!)
Tommy was a bmxer BITD and I met him and Sharon (now his wife) back in '85 or something like that. I first met Tommy at the Kilmardinny Bmx Club - Kenny Hunter will remember that one! - and used to go down and visit him in Alexandria - near Balloch at the bottom end of Loch Lomomnd.
They had their first kid, Shaun, in 1987 - as some of you know, probably my most successful year on the bike - so this year was his 21st birthday! (Has it been that long?!!)
Aileen found Neo and Trinity Matrix costumes for us, so off we went....
Tommy's other son, Chris went as WonderShaft - half WonderWoman, half Shaft!
SpiderMan was there too...
Aileen with Tommy as Captain America...
Austin Powers....
Sharon as Morticia!
Our pal Julie as BatGirl...
and Shaun the birthday boy as Heath Ledgers Joker...
A mental night - I woke up back at their house - alone in their bed, naked from the waist down with absolutely NO idea how I got there!
Now here's the Old School Freestyle connection.....Tommy went to New York in '86
He stayed with his Aunt there and worked in a bike shop....
Where he got staff discount on a nice new Sport....
Being in New York, he used to go to Central Park, where he met these guys - The Rad Dogs.
I think they were co-sponsored by Hutch - they had all the gear and did demos every day on their TrickStars.
He got a nice pair of Fight Cranks for his Sport, which, when he stopped riding, ended up on my MRD...
And Stevie McPherson (OldSchool Rider) ended up with his f&f...
Saturday was just a hangover! Oh yeah - and quali's from the first Formula One night race at Singapore - cool!
Sunday was more of the same! Watched the race - great fun!
Monday, me and Aileen were up at Knockhill racing circuit for the Race Car experience.
The instructors take you out in Seat Leon Cupra sports - brand new! - to teach you the lines and the braking points etc. on the circuit. Then you get 7 laps in a single seater race car....
Aileen heads out for the first lap...
Then we were out in one of these....in this weather! It was mental! Brilliant! Scary!
Just got these from the Knockhill photo website.....Aileen again...
I like this one!
We got a bit wet as we didn't have any overalls and it only poured down once we'd got out on track!
They were doing passenger rides in these too...
Tuesday was back to work and a quiet night....
Wednesday - one week already! - and we were at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
China Crisis..
We were quite near the front...!
Then the main act......OMD.
So there you go - a week of fun and madness!
Somehow amongst all this, I still managed to get on here and chat with you guys too!
Due to the rather tenuous Old School Freestyle connection, I expect this thread should have been posted elsewhere, so Mods - feel free to move it!
