:angrysoapbox: Having just bought a whole bike (a stock factory bike never available in over the counter parts(OTC)) and observed that we all recommended the seller to break it for parts.Do we not think that this is a worrying trend?
We make more money by breaking and selling a bike, but as Os parts become more expensive,we are ALL gonna pay more as we are only gonna be able to BUY bikes in bits.

Its ok to break bikes that were always built up from OTC parts, they were never a stock item, but if we start breaking HL Turbo's,streaks etc and selling the parts, its going to be extortionate to rebuild one(as HL Turbo owners have found). You cant just stick an SR stem on a HL(like you could a Ripper etc),it has to be the DB one....Fortune.

This sport(or bit of fun),is already REALLY expensive compared to even a year ago....its only going to get worse if we all automatically break bikes.

I like to sell stuff to RAD members cos i know it will go to a good home and be USED...are we not the caretakers of these bikes? Like with old houses(you never really own them...you just look after them until the next person comes along).Dont you think that if a bike has survived 20 years intact that its wrong for us to take it to bits for a bit of extra profit?? The most valuable old cars are the original ones with all original interiors etc.

i'm really pleased that i got a 'whole' bike and i will never sell it for parts(i'll never sell it prob).I'm just pleased he sold it to me complete...i can ride it now instead of sitting on E-bay looking for cable clips etc. :daumenhoch:

or am i just talking  :10_2_12:  ;D ;D ;D

I agree that stock bikes should be left intact,   On other non facriry builds, breaking down is a good option.

breaking it makes the most money for the seller
hence the recommendation for doing so

however it does make it more expensive for the buyer to rebuild the sucker!!

tear em apart and build them how you like them not as youve seen in a magazine, no one kept a stock bike stock not even the company sponsored pro's.

Pro's changed their bikes because(unless you were Harry Leary)no company built a bike specifically for one rider.
You are right that we all changed our stock bikes Bitd,my silver streak had mx1000's as soon as they came out,uni seats, horrible oakley rip offs...off, etc....but thats why original bikes are so sought after...they werent messed with.

We can all build bikes to suit us...and so we should, thats the point of owning one...it suits us,we personalise them to suit us.

What i'm saying is that to rebuild an original stock bike is V V V expensive because other components just arent right...you have to have the original stamped item.If we automatically start breaking them to make more cash for ourselves, its just gonna be that much more difficult & expensive to build a stock bike.

If you dont like stock bikes then fair enough, but loads of people do,and certain bikes just dont look right if they are messed with(especially Streaks...no offence anyone who has veered from the black&chrome path).

Dont automatically break bikes cos we are the ones who are gonna pay for it.If you want to customise one get a frame and go from there...its so rare to get a whole bike now(two streaks on ebay incomplete at the mo),and also, there is usually a reason why the components are selected for a stock bike(usually cost on cheaper bikes :2funny:)Someone has designed that bike like that for a reason.

What will have left in 10 yrs? Its already bad enough without enthusiasts wrecking bikes for profit.Look at Julian Taffs burner collection...its a fantastic representation of Raleigh's contribution to BMX.Its not about how they were in a magazine, its about keeping what has survived thru all the odds intact so it survives a bit longer.

Build whatever you want how you want...just dont destroy something a bit special to make profit. :angrysoapbox:
