1.3/8" Wheels - Did anyone run them bitd
« on: January 19, 2006, 04:37 PM »
Influenced by Ku Sam's post about her Laserlite with skinny's , did anyone else run them bitd ?.

Couple of pics of me at Peterborough in 83/84.

I know that Simon (Hayes) also ran them , Jon Western also ?. Skinny's were good until you got bigger ! .

Yep I had a set of 1 3/8th's and a set of 1.5's and swapped them depending on conditions,

I am convinced now I I have built all sizes of bikes, I could have run 1 1/8ths bitd I was only little , I am sure that owuld have worked

I loved racing on skinnys !!!

I always used 1 3/8" wheels as I was small for my age, wasn't until I was 1/2 way through the season in the 14 age group that I changed to full size rims.

Here are some pics.

Me in 1st.

Me in 2nd.

Me in lane 2.

I bought a Redline PL24 a few years back from a guy who used to race in the late 80s in Germany, it came set up as he used to race it...  24 x 1 3/8 rims  with skinny 24" knobbies and a brake from an old racer. Got pics on my other PC, I'll dig 'em out at the weekend ;)

Nope, I was always big and heavy  :daumenhoch: .
My younger bro ran 1 1/8 then 1 3/8 until he finished racing.
Funnily enough I've never bothered with 1 1/8 for my eldest lad as he's been a jumpy little fooker from Day 1, too much time spent riding with Diggler I reckon ;) , he bashes his 1 3/8 wheels regular and they're plenty strong enough to stand it.
God knows what my 5 year old will do to his 1" rims when he starts getting airborn...

I ran them on my VDC Changa Long back in the day, fast as fook.

I was thinking of recreating that build but i'm not sure i'll ever find a set of VDC o-bars  :-\

If there's air in the tyres... it's a rider
