LEARNING WHIPS........... ( for the elderly )...
« on: September 28, 2008, 05:23 AM »
Alrighty then New skooler's...    ;)

here's your chance to prove your worth...  ;D

I have been trying to learn whips since before most of your parents first met each other...  ???

( Seriously )!!    :-[

Now, I've seen it first hand... you new skoolers just come along and have whips dialed in like 1 session!!

and the next week your learning double whips and 360 whips...  ???

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???

I was getting so close last week...  getting them right round... getting only 1 foot to the pedal each time though...

and then i whipped one up the step up, and ended up in hospital?!?!?!  ???

ended up with torn ligaments and cartilage damage in my knee...  :(

Can some one PLEASE give me some decent advice for nailing whips...

They're killing me... but i gotta learn em!!!

Cheers young'uns!!!  :daumenhoch:

You know what screws us old gits up? The fact that we were around when JJ invented them and landed frame to pedal instead of straight to pedal. Going straight to pedal is a huge mental challenge since we were there initially. Meh, couple shots of Cuervo and a foam pit should even things up  :D

Yeahh...  my foot just automatically goes for the frame...  every time!!  :-\

i was just starting to get to one pedal but with my other leg left hanging back though...

then i went to the frame on one again... threw my other foot to the floor and twisted up my knee!!  :(

It is like a mental thing... it's just soo hard to get passed going for the frame...

And i really do think it's an old skool thing why i'm not getting it...

seeing how riders were pulling them bitd... its's just stuck in my head!!

I was trying them a good few weeks back at Rampworx with one of the younger lads...

he's now not only got whips dialed, he's now got 3 whips and is nearly getting opposite whips!!!

I just don't get it???  ???

Easier to learn them to the frame first because landing to the pedals is like a different trick! Its such a different trick to the pedals  because your trying to catch the bike with your opposite foot.If you do want to go straight to the pedals then aim for the frame but just skim your foot over the frame and catch pedals at same time. This new way of landing them round the back of the bike is fooking hard work!
I think its easier on a quarter pipe too instead of a jump. The secret i used to tell people was to lean forward so your weights over the front of the bike.Remember to lean forward and you will have it!!

Me too been doing(well almost!) whips since the mid 90's only ever landed a few sketchy ones out of thousands of attempts sometimes they just feel so perfect but the foot always dabs I think I have to just forget going to the frame and chuck my feet on the pedals like a no footer.

Dave....just don't bother learning them dude....they're an over rated trick anyway and everyone does them!

Just sleep quietly knowing that these young guns in their sisters jeans will never EVER be able to do what you can on vert!

Keep smiling dude.
