Closing in on 2 weeks now...

The will, feel, and heart are there but my body just can't keep up.
Last night I hit 6 feet and several variations. Things feel right but my body is holding me back. When I contort, my fat self rubs against the bars...when I string together more than 3 moves in a row, I have to sit and recuperate. For at least 2 minutes. I went ahead and ordered knee and shin guards plus a skate-type helm today. Not that I feel sketchy but because I know bailing with an extra 100 lbs could fug me up. When the safety gear arrives, I'm heading out to Eisenberg's determined to learn 3 moves where I left the game. Barspins, whips, and flips. Eisenberg's has a foam pit but makes you wear a helm. At first I was hating being forced to wear safety gear...the BFA pulled that shite and it always made me ride soft. Only cuz I grew up w/o gear and always felt awkward with it on. Trust me, many thought the no gear thing was a statement but it really all came down to personal comfort. I think I'll be ok with a skate-type helm cuz my visibility will remain fairly open and clear.
I'm optimistic that spins, whips, and flips will come fairly quickly since this particular park has a foam pit. Gotta be honest though....If I am successful I will feel like I cheated. Pits are great for progression but it just doesn't feel honest. Meh, I'm so old I shouldn't care yet it still bothers me lol. During this last week + I feel as though I still have the instinct and feel for riding but my body is holding me back. DAMN fast food and laziness!!!!
Tell you what. Gonna make a crazy deal with myself and the new world...If I'm still riding well by the time I get down to 200 lbs ( which is really the determinating factor) I promise to either set the new height record in Big Air or I promise to enter a Pro event and not come last. I'm probably better off with the latter although I have no idea what it takes or costs to enter an event nowadays. Being bi-polar, crazy goals help me stay focused so, ultimately, this declaration is actually a positive thing for me
Do me a favor and tell me there's no way it's gonna happen. I thrive on that shite
Whatever happens, I'm inspired again and wish to FUG I had never moved back to the U.S. Gonna at least prove that 40 year old athletes are nowhere near over-the-hill as long as they are still compleely enveloped in what they love. There. I said it and I believe it. I give myself 7 years to accomplish it but I'm feeling I can do it within 3

Greg, let me see if I read that right. You've got an extra 100lbs that you want to lose, and your target weight is 200? So you are a 300lbs fatty getting 6' airs with multiple variations. You think you can get to the level that you were riding at within 3 years?
There is no way!
.........that it takes you more than 2. WTG Greg be safe.

amazing stuff greg. you only been riding 2 weeks now and to get 6ft after many years lay off is amazing. sure the fitter you get the more weight youll lose and you'll be lasting longer on the bike and easier on the bike breaking (they are much stronger than bitd but you did ride em to death and back)
i can envisage that if you carry on with your determined efforts at the vert riding again it won't be long before you get a feature in a mag. get some pics, etc now to show the progress of everything, weight loss, control on a bike, height of air progression etc. show what can be done because you a a LEGEND.
you earned the respect of riders worldwide bitd and now is the time to earn the respect of the newer skool riders.
to coin the old 2 hip t shirt design..

Man....you guys are amazing. I was expecting lols and you guys inspired me even more. I really feel like this place is comprised of family. My first memory has to do with a bike. My most vivid memories are bike related. I'd be proud to leave this existence either on, or remembering, a bike. Don't get me wrong....my kids are far more important than anything, yet I can't deny that rolling wheels play a significant part in my destiny. I'm not concerned about earning respect. I just want to get back to what it is that encapsulates my entire being. It IS mental but a good physique certainly doesn't hurt anything. Pads and helm arrive tomorrow...flips, whips, and spins are soon to follow. Then the game begins LOL. Honestly though, I can't even begin to describe how great it feels to interact with old friends, ppl I've never met, and the Constant Rider whom I would never have met again, or initially, through this site.
Those that ride from the heart are family.
Long live the art, long live the grace, and (again) long live the bike.

BTW, those ROM pics are amazing! I never aired the bowl cuz the lip is so inconsistent. I liked carving and dropping into the bowl and jumping out and up onto the decline next to it. Meh, maybe I'll give it a go next year. Keep ripping!

It's mostly about throwing your arms back behind you... I think.
Turning the handlebars 90˚ is pretty essential.
Good pedals definitely help to.
Here's a sequence...

I met Jamie Bestwick for the first time recently, according to him this is the best cancan photo ever:

I still think Hoffman was the master, but these are my personal favorites:
