Mike that's one hell of a compliment :daumenhoch: thanks bro

I love building bikes up :) can't see me buying off the shelf ever again.

I paid $160.00 for that frame from a guy in the states he told me it was one of the last ones made. I think the build quality is fantastic, whole bike weighs in at 15.4lbs.

Am I right in thinking that Alliant have gone under now :'(

There was a load of pro 20" completes on the bay a while ago with a buy it now price of £99, one of the guys in the club bought one, great bike for that money, components are a bit basic but good enough to get started on.

Cheers,
Lee.

Lee, although only around for a short while (probably 3 or 4 years), Alliant made some really high quality frames.

But as Jai said, Alliant's biggest hurdle was convincing people that their very high quality frames were worth paying a huge premium for when people could already buy very good quality for a more reasonable price.  I also think the name and image was a bit middle of the road, then again, how do you top SE Racing and GT?!

You got a good deal and a great bike there for your lad Lee  :daumenhoch:

:) Was one of the Alliant race frames called the Express and had a steel sleeve inside the headtube or am I losing it? I think Ride UK reviewed it...

Glen

The actual gear ratio of 44-16 is what people still use but most people use it with a different set up, i.e. I use 36-13 on my Dialled (it is a similar gear ratio to 44-16).

I wouldn't use a 9t driver on a race bike personally as chains do break more often using the really small rear drivers.

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the page for 'Individual gear charts' and see what is good to use.

:) In response to Glen`s question: People do use smaller than 44/16 gearing for racing, but almost never 25/9.There is a gearing ratio chart on here somewhere that may help you. Also not sure if a Uni seat would fit a new school frame...
