ukbikeco & Jamie Bestwick?
« on: September 08, 2008, 01:21 AM »
Is Jamie Bestwick on the team, or just internet rumor?

and why did that other ukbikeco thread with the team question just die?

Yep, Dibly's away at the mo.

Not sure about Bestwick, but I do know that Mark Webb is on the team, Kane is off and there is a new team manager.

Yes, Kane was at Corby last week (on his fly frame), he was spot on.

I think the pressure of "pro" riding got to him. He said that he rides cos he enjoys it, and riding FOR a company was starting to take some of that away. He also said that he didnt really NEED a free frame, so why not let someone else get his place and get given a frame.
All bang on really, as far as I could see. Good on him.  :daumenhoch:

I guess I'm just being nosey, but as a team manager/bike co owner, also curious.

Why does riding for a company make riding any less enjoyable?  I can see to a point why that might be if the team put a lot of pressure on a rider to get results and/or the rider is getting paid but most UK deals are just product deals aren't they?

Also, there's not many bike companies around who let team riders have a lot of input into the bikes and give them signature frames, so presumably Kane was happy with the UKB frame before he left the team, so why not continue riding it even though he's no longer on the team?  e.g. I don't think Alex officially rides for S&M anymore, but he still rides/promotes the products.

I hear what you’re saying Mike, and I was asking Kane the same kind of questions (esp why he isnt still riding a UK bikes frame?).

It might be a little different with racing, cos the point is always to win, but freestyle/skatepark riding can be very different if you are under pressure to perform and to turn heads everywhere you go. Kids always wanna out do other riders and if you are a "pro" it can make you a target. Being able to ride a park anonymously and just have fun, at whatever level you fancy riding that day is where the enjoyment sometimes is. Its not all about the biggest tricks in the park.

Non of that is speaking from experience, I think that I understood what Kane was saying. And whats more, he was still rippin up Corby.

As for S&M, I choose to ride the best bike there is ... I have been lucky enough to have got given a couple of them in the past.

i have no idea about this thread? i have never spoke to Jamie i am more than happy with Paul for my vert, ronnie remo is a cool guy who has been helping me out loads! as for change the team thing....... i think some people forget i am just one guy doing this on his own, and when ronnie takes over as TM there will be some more changes but as riders attitudes change when they get a sponser.......alot! and ronnie will be answering the questions about this as well

Dave - I'm only 5ft 9", so it wasn't lookin' good! And besides, it's easier to do decades when you're lighter!
