What is it with these Mx1000's

I just can't ride with the bl00dy things. The quick release is practical but I'm sick of catching my jeans, trainer etc when using them.
Not good when i wanna get out for a thrash and am always hooking up...

And apart from the fact that they will not "stop" anything over 6 stone!!!!!! They are just an ornament!!!!
Get some proper brakes fitted.
Old for show, new school to ride.

bitd i had MX1000's with self centring mech on top, can,t remeber what pads i used, but mine used to stop on a dime, and i was 11-12 stone back then.

Now-a-days i use an odessy pit bull, works almost as weel as any new skool break i've tried.

Do have to admit can't understand how come all the brakes we used to use then are useless today, yes were a bit heavier, but were also a fair amount slower?

all my rides i kept bitd had mx1000 qr and i remember they worked well not as well as a coaster brake tuff wheel though
is there any chance its old pads that have gone off ?

only OS brakes i find work well (actually stop rather than just kinda slow ya ! )

has anybody tried better pads with mx 1000's.  the new school dude at my local bike factory was goin on about slime, it was going in one ear and out the other
but he kep assuring me they were "sick"    and i kept saying "no mate i want tuff pads"

i have to be honest i think mx1000s are over rated.

if you want something era specific and better and cheaper get 901s

you really want to stop and don't care about era correct get some midschool brakes.
bulldogs, cheap, still available new in freestyle or regular (11.99 each from billys i think) or boas or a rear pitbull.

and get alloy rims not tuffs.

tell you what jt, i have genuine nos mx1000 dia compe and they are much tighter looking than the replicas you can find.
if you know quality you don't need to look at the back of a fake and a real dc mx1000 to tell whats what

hey, I have no doubt dude, i've had some mx1000 and no question the DC mx1000s look the f***ing bollox.
but they just aren't very good are they?

for a show bike they are the best. but for a rider there's so much better out there.

i tell you what i like about Dc brakes though, even the 901s, you get all the little bitsd and pieces, cables clips, ends, those little placcy DC things
for the bolts.

you can;t fault the attention to detail.....now where's me bulldogs.

Mx1000's with the original brake pads work great on UKAI rims. But with mags they don't work well no matter what pads you use.

i found that bitd acs z pads used to work better than skyway blocks-i don't think it's so much the brakes but the compound of the rubber in the blocks

I'm running the Mx1000 with Dia Compe blocks on my PL-20.
I've had two sets of rims on there so far, polished Araya 7x and currently polished Araya Aeros.
Not had any isues with stopping at all... One brake on rear and me weighing in about 12.5 st.
It's getting caught up all the time that gets on my t1ts 
I've tried pedals with longer throw spindles to try and move my footprint out away from the calliper.

Can see it being thrown into the back of the cupboard and I'll go with an 890.    G.
