Buying Advice
« on: August 27, 2008, 11:17 AM »
Okay, i'm seriously out of touch with whats about these days.
Just say I had this 'friend', he's coming up for 35, he's about 6' tall, his waist measurement is considerably more than it was back in the day when he had a pair of 28" Haro Race pants.  He's ridden MTB pretty much since he jacked BMX in back in the early 90's so he's not a complete couch potato and he's interested in getting a new BMX for occasional track sessions/gate practice/possibly even racing.  Needless to say he doesn't want to spend too much as he's well aware that money cannot buy ability  :)
Where do I does he start looking?  Anything to look for/avoid?

20" or Cruiser?

Cruiser might be less of a transition if you're used to riding MTB.

If I was in your position I would look at a Redline or Haro complete.  I think they start around £300.  The SE Racing completes are also pretty good, but I prefer the Redline and Haro as I think the spec is better.

If that's overbudget, look at DK completes which I think are nearer the £225 mark.

You might also be able to pick up a bargain second hand.

What does 'Your Friend' want to ride? is he into old school or does he want to go new school. If it's new school does he want to try a Cruiser as that will be a better fit for him now.

Where about's are you he based ?
