Mushroom Grips Removal. I need help!!
« on: August 20, 2008, 11:27 PM »
I have some ODI Mushroom Grips.

White grip with the blue ribbed insert.

The trouble with these is the grip is hard and less flexible than most rubbery grips.

I can't get the fookers off!!

I dont want to damage the grips as I want to stick them on some other bars.

Somebody please help me,  your my only hope!!  :daumenhoch:

Cheers lad!!  :daumenhoch:

I'll get some wd40 and give it a go.

I've managed to get all my other grips off okay.

But these are being stubborn!!  >:(

I've just taken some signature mushrooms off to replace with A'mes.

I slowly pushed a small flat screwdriver down the side and squirted WD40 down, gave them a little twist and carried on the procedure pushing the driver down a bit more each time.

The second one came off harder than the first which resulted in the bike bike falling over as i was pulling really hard, the end of the bars then put a hole in the laminated flooring.  >:( >:(

At least i got them off.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Doing the same tonight to get my Oakley B2's fitted.  The screw driver can scratch the bars so be careful.  I use a sealed chopstick, much gentler than the screwdriver.

Chopsticks and a spray of GT85 did the trick, slipped straight off.  No marks on the bars :D

B2's on with a bit of a soapy rub!

Hairspray is great for installing new grips, goes on as a liquid and dries sticky to keep the grips in place. Then if you want to remove them at any time a bit of water will dissolve the dried-on hairspray. Unfortunately, being as bald as Grant Mitchell, I don't usually have any hairspray to hand?

Take your brakes off your bars, take your bars off your bike, boil some water, put it in a jug, deep enough to cover the grip, dip one end in the boiling water for around 30 seconds, the rubber will go floppy and should come off without too much bother!

I had a right game getting one of my Jive grips on with hairspray, but when I soaked the other one in boiling water, it slipped on lovely, and never moved, then used the boiling water trick to remove both of them without much trouble!

Oh and when they cool, the rubber goes back to normal.

Dude!

Oh, and if they're glued on, squirt some lighter fluid down in there. That helps.
