« on: August 17, 2008, 05:00 PM »
hi,why have i got so many washers with my crank and does the spindle need to go in one way as the sealed bearings seem to only go on to it one way and if someone can tell me how to fit it you would make me happy

hi mate

yes the spindle will go in one way, and you should have a lock nut for the other side,  washers are to line up the cranks arms and chainwheel to freewheel  :daumenhoch:

Not got twin pinch, but on mine the spindle had some grooves on one side, drive side and only after fitting once noticed this and that the splines were longer on one side, in the tech and rest stickies think there is a fitting guide. :daumenhoch:

I have fitted two set's and i dont know if it was luck but i never had a prob. I put it together out of the frame first to see how it whent together, then when i had worked out what went where i then re did it in the frame. from memory i think the spindle went in from the opposite side of the chain wheel. then use the spacers to line up as said earlier. sorry i cant be much more help. put a bit of grease on the bearing cups before fitting them as they can be a pain to fit. a rubber mallet will help  :daumenhoch:

i have just built it up out of the frame and i think i have got it now,i slid everything onto the side where stuff cant slide on,is a rubber mallet best for putting the bearings on iwas thinking about using some pipefitters grips and pulling the 2 bearing bits together ,like crushing them together in a vice

If you do that it may scratch the casings, some peeps have done it far more than me and made things to put them in with, i just used grease and a rubber mallet, a bit awkward but did it withought damaging anything. as i say this may have been luck as i have never built a bike :daumenhoch:
