DP Ladder Bars
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:16 PM »
dunno what it is with these bars, i have seen people wanting to spend £150 and £160 on them but can't find them.
i see all sorts of rare parts for rare bikes etc etc for sale but a set of DP ladder bars or trick nuts, seat post, potts mod i have no luck.
can't someone tease us with some up to date pics of these rare parts.

i have some ladder bars but am not saying what they cost  :yahoo_silent:

yeah Magna so do i, but £150 and £160 is big till for a set o' bars and people  still can't get them, ok so Glynn Lewis the 80's freestyle supastar designed them
and they were made in the UK not USA but  what bars will people pay more for ??
why is there loads of stuff on Rad for sale that is rare but not a hell of a lot of DP.

i have another firebird freestyle frame waiting to get built up but need a set of straight forks, i can't get them so its sitting there.
i have seen 2 firebird freestyler f+f's do £200 and another f+f do £230 that needed rechroming, the last pair of forks i saw did £50 ish, how much are a pair of DP Freestyle forks worth now £100-£125  ???

When i got back into the joy of osbmx i initially wanted parts i lusted for back in the day. My bike was my pride and joy from 82 to 85. A few kids that had firebirds near me had cw's on them. That's how a dp stood out in my mind. Didn't even know till the last year or so that ladder bars existed. I think the price has gone up because us old men want to do something right from a collector point of view.
question. Did glyn lewis design the ladder bars before the release of the gl+. If not then did he only use them on his gl+. If so then wouldn't be more appropiate as a collector for them to appear on a gl+ or gl ltd edition as oppose to just a basic firebird?

good question glynny (great name glynN :daumenhoch:)  i had them on one of mine back in the 80's but the other 3 firebird freestylers i had came with  cw's so your spot on about how a firebird looked as yes nearly all of the ones i saw did have cw's,

also DP referred to the original freestyler after the gl and gl+ came out as a mark 1,DP must of liked old ford escorts like me and called it a mk1  :P

lets have a pic of DP Ladderbars  :coolsmiley:

Hi all

I noticed on one of my bikes the other week that the screw in chrome fork pegs (are these trick nuts?) are stamped DP.

What bike would they of been for? Or were they made for other bikes. I have never noticed them on DP's or in Magazines.

PS - I have recieved a few Original Stickers etc for Delta II, Made in England and some others this week.

I'll scan them in if anyone is interested.

where on the fork pegs do they have DP stamp? is it on the end?

the ladder bars came out the same time as the gl +, but they where also sold as seperately  for £13 / £16 so they would have matched any of the freestylers.

i had a set of CW's on my first freesyler, never know about the ladder bars but now i have them the CW's have been removed.
i have an original dp seat post too but its in a very bad state.

Hi all

Sorry about the Picture Quality - my camera will not zoom in very well.

D.P is stamped-in, on one of the flat sides near the threaded end of the pegs. The bike came with one set on the front forks. They must be D.P and genuine from the story that I was told.

The pictures below are of the Original Decals that I was sent in the last week or so.

A part of the D.P story is still being written, but I know that there was some internal troubles at D.P and lots of bike shops had bad credit - maybe not that many bikes ever really sold and came out into the market?

I also know that approx 100 F&F where sold outside of D.P (it's a long story) and that they went cheaply to various bike shops as a cash deal.

Any chance the stem bolt is also D.P? I have not taken it out - or is it a GT?

The bike also has these - any idea of make?

Hope that the information is of use.

J.

Hi all

I have just been doing some Sunday browsing and found the DP on evil (i'm sure you all know about that already).

However - check out the picture of rear drop outs - it has the Made In Great Britain sticker.

Maybe worth keeping a picture of the correct position? Down to you DP Specialists.

Anyway, I checked in the Museum and didn't notice any bikes with the Sticker (I presume it would be both sides).

So, if anyone wants to make some up, I could send the originals for measurements /size, font, colour etc, so that your bikes have them on, and are correct  ;).

Another one solved.

my mate told me back in about 1985, he went to the factory where the frames were powder coated in his dinner hour and swapped a flipping raleigh strika for a brand new unused just been powdered frame and forks that one of the employers had.
it was for his lad who was small and as my mates brother worked in the factory he mentioned about this strika which he could swap, anyway fast forward over 20 years and my mate tells me my old school mate dozzer has this very firebird freestyler.

i would bet anything that the lads who made the frames would take a few home with them, ladder bars etc too, one of my frames has just been done in the factory that did them for DP and that was on the qt. loads of stuff got made or powdered in the factory in lunch breaks and evenings etc, it was a perk of the job.
i'll be posting pics of the factory soon  :P
