The forks are not BC forks they were developed by F1 Technolgies at a cost of £15000 a pair and shinnie has got the only 2 pair in the world and the spray job was done by Terry Dolan as regards the frame it is made by Redline but with Shinnies own required geometry, and the whole thing weighs 8kg

Who cares what she's riding - as long as she's at one with the thing and she wins the Gold for the UK, it really doesn't bloody matter, does it?!

agree with Zippy, and BMX4ever.... coverage ,and fingers crossed, a gold should see not only more people wanting to get into/back into BMX, but should also get more and more councils looking forward to 2012 with possible grants etc for more tracks and facilities.... can only live in hope.

The bike's alright, but the forks are a waste of money and the saddle looks like a sex toy.  I don't hate it, I guess I'm just a little disappointed that a rootsy company like Redline (a company I have a lot of respect/admiration of) couldn't come up with something better for an Olympic champion to be.

If she feels it helps her and gives her an advantage to win Gold then it's money well spent if she does win that Gold medal for the UK. Obviously 30K spent on two sets of fors is not money well spent in itself but seen in the full context of what she's trying to do it's a drop in the ocean.

The upside is that BMX is now an Olympic sport and even without her winning she'll have a huge impact on the sport not just to those that already know of her but also to those that don't. BMX will be the huge winner in the country and my only hope is that the BCF don't bugger it up.

I doubt very much she feels/thinks she needs those forks to win as she's a very determined/strong willed young woman.  The people who designed/made them might be telling her that though

Agree with you there - on the face of it, I don't think it's money well spent either, and a set of expensive forks aren't gonna put 'bmx on the map' - but I think there's more to it than that. If she thinks it gives her an advantage, then it will give her an advantage. So much of high end sport is in the head - the will to win and the belief that you can. If it 'only' costs 30k to get a gold, THEN it IS money well spent! The Americans have spent $500,000 replicating the Olympic track ffs!

Have to say though, if there is one piece of 'Olympic' sports equipment that a kids gonna want for Xmas this year, guess what it'll be....... (say it... B M X!)

On another tangent - first Gold of the Games for Team GB today in the Womens Road Race. Caught the last few laps of it - brilliant effort in atrocious conditions. Another few Golds to come for the GB cycling team?

Team USA spent their money preparing for the Games in the best possible way.  Team GB spent their money flying riders and "officials" to a phoney Olympic trial in Switzerland and bought 2 sets of carbon forks for 1 rider.

In my opinion it is great to see investment in the sport to try and move it on, bikes will always evolve whether we like it or not. Surely that investment can only be good for the sport. It shouldnt always be about money though, remember Obrees washing machine bike that blew everyone away!! That was a weird looking foocker and his riding style looked very odd if not damn uncomfortable....

....What I am saying is so long as there is a real benefit and push to improve the bike then who cares about the cost or if the parts come from a household appliance!.

Never been 100% sure on carbon fibre though and my roots are firmly planted in the 80's so the bike does look and feel a bit odd to me.
